That has got to be the stupidest shit I've ever heard in decades.

I understand rap being rock but how is it closer to the roots of rock than prog?

Because the roots of rock involve short songs, an emphasis on rhythm, and dancebility, for starters.

Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry, in particular, did a lot of stuff that connects to rap music in pretty clear ways. What early rock artists sounded at all like prog?

I didn't know rhyming to a computerized beat that repeats throughout the song was the early roots of rock 'n' roll.

I didn't say it was.

I didn't know that 10 minute songs with complex chord structures were the early roots of rock and roll either, if you want to do the playing dumb game.

Or you could actually read what I wrote, and try to learn something.

This is not a computerized beat but it is certainly closer to hip-hop than to King Crimson:

A steady beat certainly is much more characteristic of the roots of rock 'n' roll than King Crimson's multi-part song epics.

I wouldn't say that King Crimson is closer to the roots of rock but it shows a better demonstration of what rock is than most rappers after the early 90s.

You mean you like KC better, right? If so, that's fine, but it's another matter.
