Starless and Bible Black really is a wonder, I think it's the only album whose live/improv'd material stands up pound-for-pound to the studio/written material. How does a band lock into something as fucking dark as "The Mincer" on a whim in the studio?

I bumped In the Court of the Crimson King to 5 stars on RYM today. I realized that I love the noodly part of Moonchild (especially the shortened version on the 40th anniversary remaster), and the other four songs are all just perfect. I kind of wish it ended on those perfect, hesitant drums that are the false ending of The Court of the Crimson King, but it's still pretty much a perfect album.

There's a nice live version of Starless from 1974 on French TV on youtube. There's also a godawful one by John Whetton.

Yeah, that Starless video is pretty awesome, spare the fact that the sound seems to be on a 2-3 second delay with what's going on in the shooting, or at least the vocal track does.

Yeah I actually love the noodly bits of Moonchild, but shortening it down a bit was a good idea.

The end of Moonchild has this wonderfully peaceful and reflective mood.

The strings on the Ice blue silver sky verse of Starless are just so achingly beautiful.

The middle section of "Starless." I mean, the whole song, but the middle section, what a build up.

Everything bolded/redded here should go to the next level.

This. And bold Thrak, and perhaps also Beat and/or In the Wake.

Really? I think Lizard and Islands need bolding first.
