What do you think of Lee Peltier, Mark? We have just signed him from Huddersfield (I am a Leicester City fan).

Peltier is a good right back and was one of the reasons why town made it to the play off final in my opinion and he always gave his all when he was in Town shirt. The Only downside to Peltier is that he is prone to errors but a lot of times his pace gets him out of tricky situations he puts himself in.

Cheers, mate. You should come on the soccer thread and discuss the Terriers. I'm always complaining I have no one to discuss lower league football with.

Welcome, Mark! :thumb:

I'm currently re-doing this list and have already decided SAF will be #1. Sorry, my internet has been down for the past 3 weeks, which is why I've gotten no further on updating it.

I'm interested to know what made you change your mind here Avery

Nothing about winning anything this season or anything, just had a look at it again against the criteria and thought SAF should be #1 really.

That's a good list, though I can't really understand why Bill Shankly, Arsene Wenger and Don Revie are ahead of Alf Ramsey and Herbert Chapman.

Apparently Alf Ramsey is left out because he only won the WC and the title, but if it's simply based on trophy wins then why is Brian Clough 6th?!

They had some calculation based on average position before taking over and then while taking over, plus a multiplier based on what percentage of your income was spent on players on a season.

In that case that should surely make the case for Alf Ramsey to be higher?

Ipswich were much a much lesser club when Alf Ramsey took them over than Forest or Derby were when Clough did and it also mentioned Greece's poor performances in previous tournaments, the same can be said with Alf Ramsey with England. I know England fans will deny it and go on about England are one of the world's elite (they really aren't), but they haven't come near winning a tournament before or since.

And Jimmy Greaves coast more for Spurs, who finished 2nd, than the entire Ipswich squad combined when they wont the title in '61, so that financial thing would weigh massively in Ramsey's favour as well, a lot of those players were bought on a Third Division budget. On the other hand Clough broke the British transfer record with both Forest and Derby and came close to breaking it several other times and spent quite a bit at both clubs, it's what cost him his job at Derby, for spending money the club didn't have over the chairman's head.

Clough only won one more title than Ramsey and won 2 European Cups as opposed to one World Cup and I can't imagine the points weighting in other areas should be much different and could easily actually be in Ramsey's favour, so having such a massive gap between them in terms of points scoring doesn't really seem to make much sense to me.

Oi! It's bad enough that you're going to install that bloody Fergie at #1 on this list without you compounding that by going around giving Ipswich our titles!

Agree with that post, Avery. I've always felt Clough was a tad overrated in terms of the pantheon of great managers. And there is obviously the question of just how influential Peter Taylor was as well.

By the by as far as the list is concerned, but Clough was unlucky not to have got a lot closer to 3 European Cup wins.
Clough/Taylor was clearly a partnership of equals as far as I'm concerned.

You mean with Derby, or another campaign with Forest?
