I haven't bought it yet because I don't have the money at the moment, but the next book I plan to buy is this. So very, very tempting.

Started reading The Monkey Wrench Gang but quit from irritation, read parts of Desert Solitaire that were great, and something else (probably an excerpt of something else) in some anthology I forget the name of that was good.

what irritated you about MRG? i haven't read him myself, but as i've spent some time in sort of environmentalist/biologist circles I've had people constantly recommend Desert Solitaire to read. I guess he's supposed to be like a more modern western Thoreau, which sounds intriguing.

Anyways, last book i bought was a Ruth Rendell one, " A judgement in Stone". I've been sort of getting into mysteries lately, and Rendell writes very well. But man, I'm realizing I haven't read a canonical literary book in some time. I used to make it a point to acquaint myself with the classics but have kinda drifted off...

It's just really tendentious, and as if that weren't bad enough, tendentious from a political perspective which will never become or even be able to influence the mainstream and is therefore useless to even think about. Also the writing style is really just 6/10. It's like Tom Robbins level but less fun.

He's less intelligent and reflective but more badass and bawdy than Thoreau. Desert Solitaire is definitely worth checking out, from what I've read.

The Poky Little Puppy for my son on my Kindle. I loved that book as a toddler! After we read it he kept saying, "four little puppies on hill . . . "
