Criteria: These vocal groups were chosen and ranked based upon their popularity, longevity, creativity, versatility and influence upon the evolution of vocal group harmony. Groups that have strong voices throughout will get more credit than groups that have a great lead singer with just average secondary members. Groups with just three members will get less credit than full groups with four or five (or more) members.
Definition: - A vocal group is a group of at least three (and not more than six) vocalists that sing together in harmony where each of the members has a particular part to sing (lead, tenor, baritone, bass, soprano). In most cases vocal groups have members who are dedicated singers who do not play musical instruments while they are singing, although there are some exceptions.
