I'm not really sure about ranking them all, but I think Eric B. & Rakim is the greatest of those 15. there is no way in hell Eric B & Rakim is the greatest of those 15. in terms of influence within their subgenre, they are huge. but so are The Clash and Bob Marley, who are far more popular. Eric B & Rakim have some musical impact and a lot of influence, but no cultural impact at all and very little popularity. i'm a huge fan of them, but i don't think they even come close to the top 100 let alone top Marley or The Clash. anyway i would put it like this: top tier (by a large margin over the rest) Bob Marley The Clash second tier The Eagles AC/DC Aerosmith Eric Clapton Fleetwood Mac third tier Al Green Radiohead Joni Mitchell The Clovers Eric B. & Rakim Crosby, Stills & Nash Roy Brown Janet Jackson |

Echoes wrote: I know that he sold more records, but Clapton doesn’t have a song as popular as Imagine. are you trolling? or do you not see how ridiculous your arguments are? you are just selecting whatever criteria you want. who cares if Lennon has one song more popular than any of Clapton's? by that logic, you'd have to put The Village People and Aqua in the top 20 for YMCA and Barbie Girl. one popular song doesn't matter. Clapton's solo career was more popular than Lennon's. its just a fact. |

Quote: IMO Paul McCartney should be in the top 100 (he ties Rod Stewart, for example). No he freaking doesn't. Rod Stewart is more popular, probably more influential, has at least as much musical impact.... stop making these unsubstantiated claims that people who aren't the top 100 belong there. |

If for this list having one of the most popular songs on the history of rock is not considered as a valid argument for Popularity fine by me, I disagree, but whatever. BTW, I really don't get how you can compare Imagine (which is one of the most acclaimed rock songs ever) to YMCA. |

I just found the other part of the list: 101. Red Hot Chili Peppers 102. Grandmaster Flash & the Furious 5 103. Wilson Pickett 104. The Coasters 105. The Four Tops 106. Green Day 107. Guns 'N' Roses 108. Paul McCartney / Wings 109. Kanye West 110. Etta James 111. Big Joe Turner 112. Lynyrd Skynyrd 113. Iron Maiden 114. LL Cool J 115. Earth, Wind, & Fire 116. Dion (& the Belmonts) 117. Santana 118. The Dominoes 119. Joy Division/New Order 120. Rick Nelson 121. Lavern Baker 122. Martha & the Vandellas 123. Jefferson Airplane 124. The Moody Blues 125. Johnny Otis 126. Roxy Music 127. The Jackson 5 / The Jacksons 128. John Lennon All the artists I have mentioned are almost in the top 100, so why can´t I push for them to be a little higher? |

Well, I really don't know why Guns is outside of top 100. I see that Pearl Jam and Guns is almost a tie. The other ones ... RHCP, EWF could belong in the top 100. Jackson 5/Jacksons and Green Day are pretty close too. |

I feel like this forum is to much into who sold more records and who have better success at the Billboard charts. |

ClashWho wrote: Echoes wrote: All the artists I have mentioned are almost in the top 100, so why can´t I push for them to be a little higher? Why those particular artists? Because I feel that they are the only ones that have been wrongly left outside of the Top 100 (and maybe Johnny Cash but if he is outside of the top 100 is because for this list he is not considered rock, right?). |

Echoes wrote: Then acclaim: Acclaimed Music: #30 Acclaimed Music is all we need, really, since it compiles all the other lists. "Imagine" is #33. Why did you have to lie by three spots? "Layla" is #50. That's practically a tie. |
