Like a police officer pulling a gun on Pete Townshend and telling him he's going to shoot unless he stops smashing his guitar?

Was that at a concert, or just an incident from Pete's personal life?

Also, being ostracized for "Smashing your guitar" isn't exactly the same thing as being ostracized for being a (seemingly) bad influence on American urban youth.

I love Public Enemy. And you KNOW I love The Who even more, but cultural impact isn't even close, imo.

The Who is already above them anyway, so what's the big deal?

Being dead is a lot different from being ostracized...

Why would the Who's reckless, destructive attitude on stage not be counted as a negative impact on the youth of the time?

Didn't the Who have a big influence on the youth of England? The "mods" and what not? I mean they did write My Generation. The NWA/public enemy comparison is tough and hard to assimilate.

Because The Who weren't influencing the entire mindset of a certain demographic of people, or inspiring them to fight authority constantly.

You think Pete Townshend was maybe smashing a guitar in his bathroom one day?

Black youth weren't fighting authority until Public Enemy told them to?

I think The Who and NWA/Public Enemy both had an impact on the youth of their day, but I also think they reflected their audience more than they influenced their audience.

I got 79,800,000 results for Led Zeppelin and 70,600,000 results for the Stones, but the Stones loaded in .29 seconds, and Zeppelin loaded in .36 so if we take in to account the speed of my internet I think its safe to say that the Stones are way more popular of the two.

About 9,540,000,000 results (0.19 seconds)

The Who wins.

I guess that makes sense, I wouldn't expect a musical group to be 100% responsible for the influence and creation of a group of people. I know The Who didn't create the mod counterculture but I do think they had a huge influence and reflected on the culture very much.

I suspect that if someone typed "The Animals" or "The Band" or "War" into Google these would also get more results than "Led Zeppelin" or "Rolling Stones".

Higher number of results needs more time for processing you fucking jerk.

Actually, the Stones wins if you search for "Rolling Stones" (without "the"), but there are some results which have absolutely nothing to do with the band.

Why are you still talking about Google hits anyway? Have you read through the first post yet?

Using google results is even more retarded than using YouTube views
