The Grass Roots might actually have a decent chance to get onto the ballot one of these days. The Hall loves the 1960's rock and they've exhausted nearly all of the canon artists (excepting ones they are intentionally excluding like The Monkees and The Zombies), and key band member Creed Bratton has a newly increased profile from his years on "The Office". They won't be qualified, but I don't put it beneath the Hall to throw them a bone.

Actually, The Lovin' Spoonful were significantly more succesful on the charts than The Grass Roots. They had seven top ten hits to The Grass Roots three. They also had two #2s and one #1, while The Grass Roots biggest hits were two #5s and a #8. Also, John Sebastian was a much more high profile star than any member of The Grass Roots.

Bruce will be back in the middle of the week.

I'm really glad to read that and I'm not just saying that because I want blue and red artist names.

I thought that way about Darin (or Seeger for that matter). The Lovin' Spoonful were one of the first significant folk rock acts, had a number of substantial hits and at least three albums that have aged better than most American pop from their era. I do think they belong.

I'd be in favor of keeping this round open for awhile beyond the deadline if Bruce hasn't voted yet, but my guess is that he will have voted by then. I'm told that he's fine, he's just been out of town.

I think the Monkees are more likely than the Grass Roots to make the Hall. What I see keeping the Monkees out is perceived lack of quality/hipness, but I'd say that's an even bigger problem for the Grass Roots than for the Monkees.

The Monkees might get in when some of the more stubborn older members of the Hall start to die off. Younger music critics (and other voting types) seem to be much more in tune with the importance of The Monkees in several different areas that Sampson has long laid out (pioneers of music video, early adapters of the synthesizer, Mike Nesmith's early and influential contributions to country-rock music) than some of the older members. However, I don't see Wenner in particular going anywhere for another 10-15 years and I hope that's not how long the Monkees have to wait to get in.

You're welcome, Bruce. If you'd like, you can tell me what color the new additions should be, and I'll edit the post to make them that color.

I might be that neither of them will get in for awhile, but I'd be very surprised if the Grass Roots are inducted.

I will be too. I wasn't being serious about them getting in, but they sound like a band the Hall would nominate once they run out of all possible "acceptable" 1960's acts, appear on the ballot a couple times and then finally disappear to give ways to more deserving bands not from that 10 year span.

They should all still be blue.

Get well soon, Bruce.

I've reevaluated Donovan. I'm bumping him up from #4 to #1, so my previous 1, 2, and 3 are now 2, 3, and 4:

1 - Donovan
2 - Bill Monroe
3 - Traffic
4 - The Dave Clark Five
5 - Wanda Jackson
