Amazing how long he's been getting mentioned without getting in.

Even if you considered his much more important work with The Almanac Singers and The Weavers, he would be a questionable choice for a rock hall imo. If you consider only his solo work, he is one of the least deserving names in there at the moment.

Can those putting Nat King Cole on their ballot please post their reasons?

In addition to Cole's straight jazz and straight pop records, in the '40s he also played some jump records that were transitional from jazz to rock, and had some big R&B hits in the process. "Straighten Up and Fly Right" and "Route 66" are 2 examples of these, and, though not a hit, "Hit That Jive, Jack" is another example.

Also, his singing style was an influence on people like Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye (and, if you want to consider him rock, a huge influence on Brook Benton).

Not to mention Ray Charles, who (if you saw the movie) started out as a Nat Cole imitator, before he became a Charles Brown imitator.

Yeah. A lot of doo-wop singers, too....listen to Jesse Belvin's classic "Goodnight My Love", for example. The vocals just drip with Cole's influence.
