"Last Nite" did go platinum in the US and the UK, and does pretty well on Spotify, Last.fm, and Youtube. A song in that part of the list that I think is too high is "Truckin'". It wasn't a top 40 hit, and relative to other songs in the top 400 of this list, its acclaim isn't very high and I think not its lasting popularity either. I think that it's on the list so that The Dead will be represented, and that's fine, but I don't think it needs to be so high. So I'm thinking that "Into the Groove" could go where "Truckin'" is (#326), and "Truckin'" could go to #463.

No objection.

Here's what wiki has to say about Into the Groove.

wiki wrote:
"Into the Groove" topped the record charts in Australia, Belgium, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, and became her first number-one song in the United Kingdom. The song was only available as the B-side of the 12-inch single of "Angel" in the United States, therefore it was ineligible to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 at the time. "Into the Groove" has appeared on three Madonna compilations: in a remixed form on You Can Dance (1987), The Immaculate Collection (1990), and in its original form on Celebration (2009).

A music video, consisting of clips from the film, was released to accompany the song. The song has been performed by Madonna in most of her concert tours, most recently on the Rebel Heart Tour in 2015–16. "Into the Groove" has been covered by a number of artists, including Australian singer Dannii Minogue, who combined the song with her single "Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling". By the end of the 1980s, "Into the Groove" was honored by Billboard magazine as the Dance Single of the Decade. In 2021, Rolling Stone listed "Into the Groove" as one of the "500 Best Songs of All Time", at number 161.

All that I can add is that it was her biggest dance record during my DJ career, and she had plenty of very big ones.

Truckin definitely should be moved down, good call.

I suppose, but for me it's sad that these shlocky Madonna songs that all sound the same are more significant than the best known song by an institution like the Grateful Dead. I wish that Rock had ended in like 1980 and all of this garbage from after that was something else. And I am not a Grateful Dead fan. I just can't stand that shitty non R&B female dance sound like Madonna and all of the other white girls in her wake. IMO Madonna's influence led to some of the worst shit ever, like fucking Spears.

I remember when I was DJing in 1982 and "Everybody" came out. Not a big hit, it did not even crack the top 100 on the Billboard singles chart (bubbled under at #107), but big in the dance clubs. At that time people thought that Madonna was the name of a group as the video had a bunch of people dancing in it. Little did I know that she was gonna become the biggest act there was this side of Michael Jackson at the time. It's no coincidence that I lost almost all interest personally in current music after like 1983. I still had to keep track of it for DJing purposes, but I did not like hardly any of the stuff I had to play anymore.

CASH BOX REVIEW - APRIL 3, 1948

Wynonie Harris Orch. (King 4210)

"GOOD ROCKING TONIGHT"
"GOOD MORNING MR. BLUES"

Pair of favorable sides by Wynonie "Blues" Harris and some stuff tailor made for the hep crowd. Top deck is currently kicking up a big storm and should meet with fair approval. Flip, with Wynonie on top to wail the vocal chorus shows as some stock race material, done brown with loads of holler and riff. Familiar sax tones spill throughout the wax. The many Harris fans should go for the duo.

I don't really think all of Madonna's songs sound the same, Into the Groove, sounds pretty different from Like A Prayer, which sounds pretty different from Frozen, which sounds pretty different from Hung Up. Most fall under Dance-Pop roughly speaking but that doesn't mean they all sound the same.

I don't know the last two you mentioned, but if I take most of her hits and drop the needle down in the middle of any of them without hearing the title they are all the same to me. I guess I just detest female dance pop.

It would probably be the same thing for you with Muddy Waters or Jimmy Reed.

I'll e-mail Brett Alan about this proposed change.

I got a response from Brett. He said that he thinks "Into the Groove" is bigger than "Like a Prayer", and was also opposed to moving down "Truckin'". I then proposed to flip "Like a Prayer" with "Vogue", and he agreed to that. I'll go ahead and send that change to Lew.

I'd say 463 is too low for Vogue but I'm glad to see Like a Prayer moving up.

It might be a little low, but I do think that "Like a Prayer" should be ahead of it, so if that's the case, flipping the two improves the list.

It's at 571 on AM, so 463 is about right once you take out the rock stuff from AM.

I'm curious why Mony Mony is as high as it is considering it's barely even ranked on AcclaimedMusic. Fwiw the Popular songs list has it at 415 and that list does not take into account acclaim.
