I just posted this on the acclaimedmusic forum:

On your 1960 song list I see three songs that were released in 1959.
Money - Barrett Strong - single released in November 1959 and reviewed in Dec 1959.
Beyond The Sea - Bobby Darin - Released on the "That's All" album which was on the charts already in Oct of 1959.
Baby What You Want Me To Do - Single released and reviewed in dec of 1959.

On your 1959 song list, "Sea Cruise" and "Since I Don't Have You" and "The Right Time" were all released in 1958.

On your 1958 song list, "Maybe" "Book of Love" "Get A Job" and "Red Hot" were all released in 1957.

On your 1957 song list "Come Go With Me" was released in 1956.

On your 1956 song list "Need Your Love So Bad" and "See You Later Aligator" were released in 1955

That's good. You should've posted it in the "New Report Errors" thread though, cause now it'll be sure to be overlooked once they get around to making such changes.

Just copied it into there, thanks.

Good point. No consideration of their reputation as live artists, for example, which hurts the standing of James Brown, The Who, and the Grateful Dead, no doubt.

And yet The Who is still ranked 9th of all-time.

They may weigh the albums more than the individual songs which might explain why Love and other white acts in general do better than black acts in the 60s.

They do and to quite a significant margin I believe.

Then how to explain Prince being 8th all-time and The Who being 9th all-time? The Who is 9th all-time in songs and 10th all-time in albums, while Prince is 8th all-time in songs and 13th all-time in albums. That would suggest that songs are weighted more heavily than albums.

Probably the difference between the scores of The Who and Prince is significantly bigger for the songs than for the albums.

I asked the site owner about this and he said....

this has been discussed several times before, with some people thinking like you while others would like to see an even higher weight for albums. However you look at it you are definitely right that it's unfair to artists from before the album era. However, the ranking should not be taken too seriously, it's more of a summary of all the critics' lists (and there are more album lists than songs lists).

BTW, the updated list is now up, including the forum-voted #500, "River Deep-Mountain High".

(Hopefully Lew, Brian, or Rick will update the first post of this thread. TIA.)

Why is Love Shack on here instead of Rock Lobster?

I think primarily because it's more popular.

Okay, we just made these changes, dropping off "Only You" by the Platters.

443. River Deep, Mountain High - Ike & Tina Turner
500. I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You) - Aretha Franklin

There's exactly nothing "Scar Tissue" has on "Only You".
