I guess JRA is going metal-archives here and saying that because it's popular means it isn't real metal. Earlier he complained that Van Halen wasn't considered metal.

:ugh: I never said Alice In Chains couldn't claim being influenced by metal, I said they couldn't call themselves a metal band, because they ran away from the term because it was considered a commercial hinderance.

The thing is, bands don't determine what genre their music is. The Village People could call themselves metal until they're blue in the face, but they're not metal. Alice in Chains is metal regardless of how they choose to market themselves.

You might wanna reword this, it seems like you're saying bands have no creative control over their own music. It'd be better to say "bands don't determine what genre their music is through marketing."

Help me out here. How was metal on the decline? Because Glam was no longer dominating the charts?

I just pointed out why it went back underground.

And Floyo, I never said there wasn't metal influence in the music of any of those bands you simpleton.

Look either way it doesn't matter, the point is metal stopped being in the mainstream in the 90s because of the series of events that happened to the bands I listed up above. and while there were plenty of other bands (most of which Nesquik mentioned) putting out great albums willing to take those spots, record companies just didn't pick up on them and weren't willing to promote them.

Being undeground and not being in the mainstream is the same thing as being on the decline?

Is that true JRA? Metal-archives decides your opinion for you?

False, commercial representations of the genre. What is it about Glam or nu that makes them false?

Because they don't buy into the "we did it for metal" bullshit of other bands? Glam is the most honest metal genre ever. They wanted to get laid and get wasted, make music and make money.

Korn's debut was not a commerical success. It only went to number 72. If they hadn't followed it up with a string of top tens, would their music still be false?
