My list would probably go:

1. Man in the Box
2. Would?
3. Rooster
4. Down in a Hole
5. Nutshell
6. Them Bones
7. No Excuses
8. I Stay Away
9. Angry Chair
10. We Die Young

I'll take that top 8, but put We Die Young at 9 and Grind at 10.

Actually I'd put Heaven Beside You before Grind just because it charted higher

Heaven Beside You > Dam That River > Grind

Are these charts not based on popularity, influence, and impact?

The criteria on the main site is listed as:

Criteria: - These songs are ranked based on their initial and lasting popularity, as well as influence & impact on rock 'n' roll [read:metal]. (Note: These are "Best Of", not "Greatest Hits". Although often the same.)

Metal criteria are all within the world of metal first; general rock and general music is an afterthought.

Guess we'll have to rework the Metallica and Iron Maiden lists.

Criteria: impact, influence, popularity and less important - musical quality/composition and lyrical quality, within the world of metal.

That was taken from the top 100 metal songs thread

Candlemass

1. Well of Souls (Nightfall)
2. Bewitched (Nightfall)
3. Solitude (Epicus Doomicus Metallicus)
4. Dark Are the Veils of Death (Nightfall)
5. Mirror Mirror (Ancient Dreams)
6. Mourners Lament (Nightfall)
7. Sorcerer's Pledge (Epicus Doomicus Metallicus)
8. Tale of Creation (Tales of Creation)
9. Crystal Ball (Epicus Doomicus Metallicus)
10. Ancient Dreams (Ancient Dreams)

-Not bad, but I dont think Mourner's Lament needs to be there, especially when you dont have the face-melting awesomeness of "At The Gallow's End". Come on!

-The lack of "Demon's Gate" also is surprising. I believe that was Leif's favorite song and he even wanted it to open the album (but was outvoted or something). At any rate, it's over 9 fucking minutes and never gets boring or uninteresting.

FUCK these guys rule my world.

Johann > Messiah, though.

Yea, no Demon's Gate is bullshit. It should be in a top 10 before Crystal Ball (at least in terms of that album).
