i don't generally dig NZ music but these groups/people are well worth listening to/super-breezy coolness

Homebrew - self-entitled
Hollie Smith - Humour and The Misfortune of Others (esp tracks Let Me Go and Overtime... gives me the soul chills)
Fat Freddy's Drop - Based on A True Story
Jakob - Cale:Drew

Would any of you guys be interested in doing a "DDD's Essential Mix" kind of series? It would have to be contained in its own thread, but basically each user would create a playlist and then post a download link for it in the thread. Except instead of a 'normal' playlist you would have to go into audacity (or whatever program you want to use) and make your playlist one long track. This way it removes any bias or pretension when it comes to listening to the music so you might enjoy things you normally wouldn't, plus it would provide some cool opportunities to play around with crossfading music or cutting out intros/outros or seamlessly segueing them into another track. After a week (which I figure would give people opportune time to download and listen to it) you post the track listing. The mix would have to be a minimum of forty minutes and a maximum of sixty five. Any takers?

That's a brilliant idea. I don't know how good I'd be at mixing things though. But I would definitely listen to what other people had to make. Any idea that gets DDD listening to things in a communal way is a great one for me.

My laptop hard drive died on me today. Every music geek's worst nightmare. I've backed up the majority of my stuff, but not anything for about 6 months to a year, so unless things can be recovered, I'm gonna have to do a lot of re downloading.

Each time that happens to me I look at it as a chance for rebirth. I don't even bother backing up now. My lack of current options drives a new campaign to conquer unheard music, and I emerge more powerful than ever before.

I should back up my collection. Mostly so I don't have to retag all that classical music, because seriously, FUCK tagging classical music.

I just back up albums onto the external hard drive immediately when I get them. Its no more than an extra fifiteen seconds and this way I'm covered for everything always.

I don't back things up, and I'm with jumpman on this one. It's kind of freeing when my computer crashes and I begin anew.

Yeah, I have much the same outlook on this as Liam. It's obviously nice to have all the music you've ever listened to in the past few years in one place, but if it's something I truly love, I'll think of it and find it, and if I don't, I probably wasn't going to listen to it again.

Wanta, I think I'm gonna pay for Spotify at some point in the near future - it's just a big conveniance, especially at times like this.
