Look, we all know what a fucking song is. He should have brought up the point as soon as Moonlight Sonata was nominated.

Clash, if you wanted to actually be reasonable about this, you'd be complaining about this being called the "songs tournament" since that doesn't fit with the criteria for inclusion in the tournament, rather than complaining that the criteria don't fit the title. Clearly the criteria are more important than what the tournament is called, and there's no good reason to exclude music like Mingus and Beethoven from such a tournament.

Though if you really wanted to be reasonable, you wouldn't have brought up such a vapid point in the first place, and would recognize that the idea that a language should perfectly resemble a dictionary is dumb.

Also, go protest all the people posting non-songs in the "last song you listened to" thread so that you stop looking like someone who adopts such positions for the sole purpose of sucking Townshend's dick.

yeah it's too late at this point, i didn't even know the definition of a song was that. Though Moonlight Sonata does feel weird being in this tourney.

i think it only feels weird because its from a completely different world musically speaking and culturally speaking. which is NOT a bad thing of course. but its an outlier for sure. like it was our "classical music affirmative action hire".

I think it will probs win the tournament. But there are still songs in the tourney that could match up against it that I would vote for instead. For instance, I would vote for Voodoo Child or Northern Sky over Moonlight Sonata. Cuz i keeps it real like dat

Moonlight Sonata was just as important in my musical development as Baba O'Riley if not more so, both are incredibly "noobie", both give me shivers down my spine in equal measure, and I consider them both on about the same level of the high/low art spectrum.

Jake hates old music.

I agree.

Growing up, my dad would play Beethoven, 30s and 40s era jazz, and pre-1960 blues artists (along with a lot of other stuff, but that was the majority).

You are completely misinterpreting my frame of mind. I nominated the Peter Gunn Theme. Hobo Ho had such an impact on me that I actually bought Let My Children Hear Music, the only piece of music in the tourney (that was new to me) that I've yet to do that for. Yeah, I do think the Moonlight Sonata is out of place in this tournament. I wonder if the person who nominated it even realizes that the link is just the first movement of a much longer piece.
