Phish - Julius vs Stardust - Music Sounds Better with You I wasn't really a fan of the Stardust song. OutKast - Funky Ride vs Joy Division - Shadowplay Outkast song was a little annoying, really. Les Savy Fav - Hold On To Your Genre (incorrectly listed as "The Sweat Descends") vs Opeth - Isolation Years No comment needed. Modest Mouse - 3rd Planet vs Santana - Revelations Fuck Santana. Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down vs The Band-Acadian Driftwood Johnny Cash was the badass. The National - Friend of Mine vs John Coltrane - Giant Steps |

OutKast - Funky Ride Joy Division - Shadowplay The National - Friend of Mine John Coltrane - Giant Steps The National song is good. Giant Steps blew me away. I'll probably vote for the other match-ups later. |

Curiosity wrote: LOL I can't believe people are voting for shit like any Television song over f*cking Jesus Christ Pose, one of the most brutal, downright ferocious pieces of music ever recorded. Really you slag Radiohead and the Rolling Stones all the time but you like Soundgarden? Not that liking an group gives someone a right to look down on other peoples taste but at least with the Beatles you weren't living in a house made out of safety glass. |

[quote="George"]Phish - Julius http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M745Gkdlrg4 vs Stardust - Music Sounds Better with You: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YCoSF-voHY OutKast - Funky Ride vs Joy Division - Shadowplay Don't like voting against Outkast and they have multiple other tracks that would win this matchup but Shadowplay is Joy Division's best and it clearly wins here. Les Savy Fav - Hold On To Your Genre (incorrectly listed as "The Sweat Descends") vs Opeth - Isolation Years A top 100 track for me now and a wonderful piece of music that this tournament led me to rediscover as I had kind of forgotten about it. The other track had no chance. Modest Mouse - 3rd Planet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsnELWjsCsA vs Santana - Revelations http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wv1TpJ6tOQM Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down vs The Band-Acadian Driftwood This Johnny Cash song hits like an absolute gut punch. So simple musically and yet so damn effective. It beat Bastard and, while it still isn't better, this is the only one of the matchups where a song of mine lost that I can legitimately say I have no beef with anyone picking it because it definitely has tons of merit. Meanwhile the Band are nice but not even in the same league. The National - Friend of Mine vs John Coltrane - Giant Steps Giant Steps is by no means Coltrane's best but Friend of Mine isn't one of the National's best either and weak the National loses to weak Coltrane. That's just the rule. |

Bit of a stretch to call Giant Steps "weak". |

actually i kind of agree... for me it is at the same time one of the most legendary solos in jazz history and yet overrated as far as coltrane's catalogue goes since he has many compositions and solos at least as good (and even much better), though i'll admit a bias in favor of ballads - dear lord, naima, after the rain - but his are so beautiful they're just to die for |
