If it weren't for Led Zeppelin, I'd probably have never become a serious listener of music (although Nirvana was my major gateway band).

Led Zeppelin is the epitome of gateway band, pretty much single-handedly got me interested in music in a dedicated capacity.

I think I went Nirvana to the rest of Grunge, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Black Sabbath and Pixies. From there, I sort of branched out bit by bit (Led Zeppelin to other classic hard rock, The Beatles to other classic rock, Black Sabbath to '80s metal, Pixies to other alternative bands, Radiohead, etc.)

nah the template for post grunge was already set in stone when pearl jam released ten. i don't think people realise what a 'dangerous' album ten was. so emotionally charged and dramatic, any imitators would basically be walking on a plank with that kind of aesthetic. and while ten was good, everything it spawned in its wake was an utter shitfest.

So it's like the Led Zeppelin of albums?

Led Zeppelin influenced some incredible music, STFU.

Way to miss the point.

Led Zeppelin is the reason I became a serious music listener. Getting into their catologue was one of the most life-changing things I've ever done.

After Hendrix it was the classic rock and 90s rock bands, and then progressive rock, then alternative and punk rock, then psychedelic rock, then all kinds of stuff.

And like I said, I don't really grow out of anything.

Of that list I also like Rainbow and Schenker (for his work with UFO).

To that list I would also add Jane's Addiction, Rush, Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC. Yeah I'm a big fan of classic rock, sue me.

And yes, having similar taste in music to many people's dad's is why I don't talk about my musical interests too often.

well obviously I hate Rush, but the rest of those all have at least a couple good songs although none of them are favorites (Van Halen would be if everyone in the band had died right after the first album).

Of c'mon. Fair Warning and 1984 are both good, and there's some good stuff from their other albums.

Some, sure, but not enough to justify their continued existence

When you can ignore all the stuff you personally don't like, of course it does. Van Halen are a consistantly good singles band, and I even admit to liking some of the Hagar stuff.

No defending that new single of theirs though. Definitely something that deserves mentioning in this thread. :ugh:

Fair Warning is a killer album until the last couple of tracks. There's at least a couple great cuts on every Roth-era Van Halen album. Haven't heard the most recent one, though.
