American Idol is having a great season. I just watched an ep that had an 'all-male' night and I was initially like "mreh" because the judges were Randy, Mariah Carey, Nikki Minaj and that Keith guy... but they were all actually really good and gave actually quite sound, perceptive advice. more than that though, every contestant was had some degree of genuine talent and something unique going on, not just cliche after cliche. Guy with a turban ftw

Agree with you pave about Waits/Beatles and Cornell.

From the first page:

So not true, Streetlight and Op Ivy own.

So true.

Kid A has, at most, two memorable songs on it (two more than In Rainbows). Being the best-sounding thing ever might still be enough to get it on my PTF list, though.

Mentioned it in another thread, but The Glad Fact is out-and-out fucking garbage and it's mind boggling that anyone could enjoy a minute of it.

This is only unpopular because far fewer people are familiar with Ani DiFranco than Bob Dylan.

im starting to think video game music at its best is the very best music around. not only does it have to be emotionally involving, but it also has to be made so that you dont get bored after hearing the same tune on a loop for 20 minutes, or hearing it 100 times. i get the feeling that really pushes the medium like no other artificial boundaries do on other forms of music. its the hardest to get write but when it hits (chrono trigger soundtrack) its incredible!

No.

Illmatic isn't that good. and neither is Nas as a whole. the following emcees/lyricsts are all more fun to listen to: Mos Def, Redman, Big L, Eminem, Common, Talib Kweli, Big Pun.

Illmatic butt rapes everything Eminem has ever done 9001 times over.

80s Crimson > 70s Crimson

No way. I admit that I prefer Discipline to any 70s KC album, even Red, and Fripp/Belew/Levin/Bruford is probably my favorite Crimson lineup, but besides that 70s KC > 80s KC.

Their other two 80s albums are solid (besides Heartbeat which is my least favorite KC song) but pale in comparison to all of their 70s albums, yes including the albums between ITCOTCK and Starless, which I think are underrated.

I should go on the record and say that the only KC album I'd call anything less than good is ConstruKction of Light, that's easily their worst album, no question. It's a speck of lint on the penis of an alien.

Pet Sounds is really good for like a year after you get over the fact that, as a teenager, you thought The Beach Boys sucked (despite not knowing anything about them) but then you realized they didn't. but after that year, it really isn't all that fun to listen to anymore.

And you think I'm the one who doesn't appreciate pop music?

I've generally protested against these reality music shows, but the last season of American Idol (with Casey Abrams) was actually very fun. Shame they kicked off Abrams, the most interesting dude, way too early.

That season is the only time I've ever been interested in AI because the singers were actually a little interesting for a change. Before that I would sometimes watch the auditions with the bad singers because they were the only ones with anything resembling a fucking personality.

I fucking hated that producer guy (Jimmy Lovine) who was on there all the time though, his criticisms were always bullshit and the kind you would expect from an industry insider who only wants the same fucking thing over and over and over again.

Like Simon only less British, so not as bad.

I mean, David Bowie makes some good music. I don't dislike him. But there's no passion behind it. It's all artifice.

Kid Rock has passion. Fuck passion.

And I don't think that's even true, but even so, his music is obviously not an afterthought, he puts passion into making his music even if his music isn't used to outwardly express his personal feelings on life and what not. Like Zappa may not have made "serious" music but he took making music pretty fucking seriously. I hate it when people can't tell the difference.

"Passion" is an overrated fucking concept in music. I don't care how passionate you are, if you're just some emo cunt with an acoustic guitar you can fuck off forever. I want music, not an emotional circle jerk.

Trolling aside I really don't get the big fucking deal about Van Morrison, I don't like his vocal style and I think Astral Weeks is the most overrated album of the 60s bar fucking none, except maybe Blonde on Blonde but I kinda like Rainy Day Women so I'm calling it for Astral Weeks.

It just sounds like a wank job to me, yeah I know, prog fan, ha ha hypocrite lolz, maybe I like wank jobs, fuck, but AW is a boring wank job, and there's nothing worse than a boring wank job. So as far as I'm concerned Van Morrison is the Dream Theater of the 60s. Ok trolling not completely aside.

I know it's not typical of his usual style, I prefer the more traditional Moondance since it has like, melodies and stuff, but even then he can't hold my interest for very long. He's too conservative for my taste, seriously this shit is like lounge music to me.
