Anyone here heard Liege & Lief by Fairport Convention? That album is the bomb.

Lulu - Lou Reed + Metallica

Rating: 7.2

It's quite and interesting album. I had heard a lot of people saying it's basically the worst thing ever recorded and that Lou Reed and Metallica should both die and suffer a very painful death. I don't expect Mr. Reed to please the mainstream with beautiful rock songs like he could do 40 years ago. He's way past that. I can sense a statement in this album unlike anything else in rock music today. Bands just aren't that brave nowadays, to defy the media, to fight social conventions of what an album should be. I wouldn't expect less from Lou Reed, considering he's always been an innovator and a groundbreaking artist. Special mention to Metallica, who sailed on this very brave journey into making one of the weirdest albums in the past 20 years (risking their carreer and legacy, but definitely entering a whole new world of experimentation that can only benefit their future albums). It was my first listen and the rating could (and will) go up with time, as I see that there is far more to this record than just the music. The message sent may not be noticeable now, but it certainly will be with every year that passes and the influence will only grow. There is this very haunting mood surrounding 'Lulu'. Kind of creepy, kind of dirty but yet beautifully misterious that only makes me appreciate it a lot more.

Grouper - A I A

i will write a really long review for this at some point, but this is a confirmed top 5 album of 2011. Liz Harris' magnum opus i think.

it is such a grower. there's something really mysterious and subliminal going on there. lovely soundscapes, lonely hums. <3 grouper

Cross is an abortion of an album. On paper, it sounds amazing (two french guys making disco house with the compression turned all the way up, sound familiar?) but when you go to actually listen to it it's awful.

Okay, so Genesis isn't all that bad, but the rest of the album is.

Cross is great, I don't know what you guys are talking about. The only bad song is The Party, which is really really awful.

The Cure - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me
3.5/5 = Good

Not bad for The Cure's lighter poppier side, but doesn't stack up to most of their other 80's releases, and there simply is no need for it to be a double album, as there is quite a bit of filler.

"Tthhee Ppaarrttyy" for life, you guys are nuts. Especially crazy to call it the worst on the album when "DVNO" comes right after.

I agree, cross has alot of redeeming qualities about it but the party reminds me so much of that Kesha song that it makes it hard to like. DVNO is a cool song but its pretty damn stupid. One Minute to Midnight and Genesis are bomb tracks. Their latest album though was complete garbage, not a single track on it I liked.

ya i love it when you don't really care for an album at first and then after becoming a more experienced music listener you go back and love it. It's happened to me so many times. Screamadelica namely.
