Atavachron- Allan Holdsworth

A good instrumental guitar album, and tasteful to boot. Supporting musicians are very talented as well.

8.0/10

Edit- A good instrumental guitar album plus one track with vocals.

Fela Kuti - Expensive Shit

Image

25 minutes of absolute perfect afro jazz funk perfection, fast becoming one of my favorite albums of all time. Fela Kuti's a legend, and for a good reason. The man could probably put James Brown to shame with how much funk he brings to his compositions, and yet there's an undeniable African flavor and the ever prevailing feeling of jazz infused within.

9.5/10

:wumpscut: - Bunker Gate Seven

was not sure what to expect when i picked this one up, but it was certainly an enjoyable listen. harsh industrial noises with harsh screeching Marilyn Manson-esque voices to often beautiful and melodically haunting electronic passages and background keyboards set for a very interesting and unique sounding album. I wonder if anybody else is familiar with the artist. its a very strange album, often disturbing(the song torn skin for example). i cant quite place my head around it, but as mentioned before, i certainly like it, and not figuring it out isnt always a bad thing. There is one highlight song in this album which completely kills every other song here, and that one song is probably enough for the album to be worth it IMO.

Wilson Pickett - The Exciting Wilson Pickett

Image

Apparently his most acclaimed album, and Id say with good reason, since there isnt a single bad song on here, and its just a great album backed by a great band of musicians and with one powerhouse of a talented singer who knows how to wail and sing with soul. Ive been on plenty of listens on this album in recent times, and I cant say much about it other than its a brilliant representation of the soul scene of the 60s, and album comparable to the more popular ones from Otis redding or Sam Cooke. In my case, I actually prefer it to both Night beat and Aint that good news, though not by much. I find the music to be more diverse and interesting, and Pickett's singing and delivery is just fabulous.

9.5/10

It really is. I finished with his album Zombie yesterday, and its about just as good, 4 groovy funky afro jazz tracks. The black president indeed....

Have you heard that Pickett album gray ?

All I've really heard from Pickett is a greatest hits package. Not totally blown away, but I'd be willing to try some new material from him.

Picketts one guy who, cause I like the guy's voice so much and the arrangements, want to go through albums. This is apparently far and away his best album, so if it doesnt appeal to you, you could halt.

Naw I'll give it a try. I haven't truly given him a fair chance yet. His arrangements have been the weak point thusfar. In my eyes, that is.

Yo Yoush. I just played that Wilson Pickett album for the first time. Pretty good but not a favorite. It doesn't surprise me at all that this is his most acclaimef, with that track listing. If only it had his Hey Jude...
