Compared to Foreground and Colorado, it just kind of sits there for me, despite its bigger dynamics. But for 90% of the album, it is unbelievably sublime. I'm really enjoying it, I think it's solid. Veckatimest is probably better but Shields is still a stellar release. Half Gate and Yet Again are probably my favorite tracks on it so far. |

Mitch NZ wrote: Grizzly Bear - Shields High Tier Maybe a slight disappointment, this album shares Veckatimist's defining characteristic in my mind: It's all over the place. The first two tracks are heart-wrenchingly beautiful, but other tracks just go absolutely nowhere. Perhaps they should consider an EP? I feel the same way, after Yet Again the quality of the album sort of drops. It lacks the "Foreground" type song that made Veckatimest so great and complete. |

Mitch and any other Miles fans may want to check out this concert for download. I haven't listened to it, but generally when this site says a recording is good, it is. |

Basically Yousha, garage rock has to be really, really catchy or well produced for me to get into it. hmm i can't be down with this, what do you mean by well produced? some of the best garage rock ive heard (coincidentally, a lot of brilliant NZ garage too) sounds completely shit and their sound is overall far better for it. not to question your enjoyment or lack thereof of the stripes though. i'm more enthralled by singular jack white moments than an album's worth |

I always considered the White Stripes to be among the best at making catchy garage rock. Also, I found White Blood Cells to be well arranged and varied. Stuff like Hotel Yorba, The Same Boy You've Always Know and We're Going to Be Friends help change things up and provide a nice break from the otherwise loud sound of the album. |

I've always felt like the White Stripes are one of the best artists in terms of the relationship between production, track listing, and general career progression. |
