Chrome - Half Machine Lip Moves

Chrome is a very early noise-rock/proto-industrial post punk band out of Cali. This is their classic album which behind the veil of obscurity was a landmark album in both noise and post-punk. It has all of the elements of The Stooges' chaotic ferocity and foresees The Butthole Surfers' psychedelic intensity. After listening to this, I can tell many of the elements that made The Butthole Surfers so memorable was Chrome hero worship. In spite of the Surfer comparisons, Chrome had a more refined and less insane sense of songwriting which while being very unimmediate is not inaccessible for the sake of being bizarre. This is a gem of an album, definitely check it out if you want to explore the roots of industrial.

I have started listening to Illmatic recently but I haven't gotten too deeply into it. I'll listen to it with rap genius up pretty soon. And I'm downloading that Binary Star album.

Good to finally here the crx reaction to the Kanye; can't say I'm too surprised. I'm now at the point where I am thoroughly bored by even the aspects of it that I once loved. Still, I can understand why people like it. One of my favorite album reviews last year was David Amidon of Popmatters (who is Nodima on RYM)'s review of it, which is effusive with praise. Dude's a really good critic and a good guide to rap, though I disagree with him every now and then.

I understand a lot of the criticism of of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy but for me it's just too much fun to dislike. Well, most of it, anyway.

See that was the problem for me. While the first five tracks were decent fun for the rest of the album I just wasn't even having fun.

he's pretty concrete with his opinions too. I don't think I've ever seen a record grow for Pete

damn, corrections, nice review. you pretty much summed up all the negatives completely. i do think the album has a few positives, but you got the negatives spot on.

Hated Monster and thought it was painful rather than fun. Devil in a New dress went on for way too long but had some decent ideas. Lost in the World was pretty painful.

They happen but their rare. Biggest exceptions are the Rolling Stones catalog and Outkast's catalog. Generally stuff that I peg in the 9 plus range to start has room for growth too. But mostly stuff either disgrows or stays the same.

Michael Hurley/The Unholy Modal Rounders/Jeffrey Frederick & the Clamtones - Have Moicy!
10.0/10

Probably stands amongst my top 15 albums of all-time.

There were roughly 3204089123049870134 overly distorted, poorly played blues rock albums released in the late 60s. So why the hell is this one repeatedly singled out as contributing to the beginnings of a genre (metal) that it sounds basically nothing like? I for one will never know, though it's a possibility that the horrible excuse for a bass riff at the beginning of "Doctor Please" has something to do with it. Props to "Parchment Farm" for not being a complete and total bore; the continuing relative popularity of "Summertime Blues"--the most unbearable track here--remains a mystery. An album I did not enjoy, but could imagine myself enjoying in a weirdly Stooges-like way at some smoked out moment in the distant future. But most likely not.

THANK YOU! Holy lord I've never gotten either why this was popular at all or why anyone picked it out of the mess of similar sounding shit and pretended it was a foundation for metal.
