I'm simply suggesting that you're sudden, perhaps overdue discovery of "classic rock" is similar to one's first consumption of beer, which is usually followed by unnecessary annoyance and immature enthusiasm. It's a figure of speech.

I stated in my last post that I've been listening to classic rock for years...maybe about 15 years now starting with Sabbath and AC/DC in the mid 90's when I was 10 years old. Over the past 9 years I have been listening to a lot more old bands. The topic is what you are "currently" obsessed with. I go through phases when it comes to music. I am a metalhead adn listen to a lot of metal but sometimes I take a break and listen to hard rock or classic rock or alternative rock...etc.

I'm not claiming that you called me immature but just to make it clear, my immature days are far behind me now. :thumb:

still obsessed with "Voodoo" by D'angelo, but now thinking it is probably in the top 10 (at least) of the 00s. Incredible album. It's crazy how ahead of its time it was. The kind of music he pioneered only just got mass acceptance in the indie community in the past year or so.

really? I always thought d'angelo was a generic, cookie-cutter r&b/soul singer.

nah, with batman. dee's class and that's a great album. not enough love given.

whiskeytown - 16 days. enjoying whiskeytown more than i like adams' solo material from what little i've heard of both.

have you heard "Voodoo?" It might change your opinion. The songs are expertly crafted and I really think he sings with some of the best vocal restraint since Al Green.

here are two songs that come to mind when I think of D'angelo's non-generic style:

Well, my prediction earlier was correct. I am in a full-blown Supremes addiction. I just love the backing vocals and the way they interact with the lead. They tend to avoid the common oohs and ahs that are so typical to this kind of music, and neither do they simply parallel the lead. Instead they introduce and reintroduce melodies and lyrics that always play with or enhance the melodies and lyrics of the lead vocal, at least on my favorite tracks like Where Did Our Love Go and Baby Love. Damn, they're good. Thanks for making me listen to them more seriously, Drew.

Yeah, I used to have a compilation of theirs, but I lost it when I had to get a new hard drive this past winter. I was never as into them as I'm now into the Supremes, though, but maybe I should revisit.
