That's actually one of the first DP songs I've ever heard, I remember downloading a compilation called Deep Purple Platinum, it had 3 volumes and on the third volume was this song. Hughes is truly incredible there.

Okay, I may be a bit off-topic, but I wanted to hear professional opinion here about this for a long time now. There is, actually was, sadly, Russian singer Muslim Magomaev. Not sure you've ever heard of him. He had a fantastic voice - beautiful, with a great range, just amazing. Every time I listen to him - I think of Adam Lambert. I'm fully aware of their differences: for one thing, Magomaev was a baritone, he initially had a formal opera training (he even was on probation in the La Scala theater in Milan), he was both operatic and pop singer closer to Sinatra style then rock - so a lot of similarities as well as differences. But! when I listen to him (especially pop songs), it's like I hear Adam's approach to performance. Not many singers even for my untrained ear can use their voices in such a capacity.

It's really difficult to find videos where Magomaev had used his showman skills, he used to sing in a lot of formal events.
