Bonnet was a BEAST! He has very little influence or acclaim though. But truly insane power, range and fairly versatile too.

I remain of the opinion that Tim Buckley...
a.)had the best vibrato of any rock singer ever, and
b.)is overall one of the top 5 most incredibly brilliant and gifted vocalists in rock, right up there with Merc, Jackie, Elvis, anyone...

3:04....that volume control...forget about it.

Tony Williams had the Godliest voice of any r&b singer Ive ever heard. Incredible dynamics, flawless pitch, hair-raising power and resonance that easily rivals Jackie, impeccable phrasing, etc.

I think he's overrated but now the Tim Buckley fan boys will attack me. Nice voice with good range, yes, exceptional, no. There's been dozens of singers at least as good or better, the above mentioned Tony Williams being one of them. He's like Cliff Burton of Metallica who's death elevated him to a status beyond what he deserved. Buckley died and he suddenly became great.

I fail to see how this is not exceptional.
Phrasing just does NOT get any better than this.

Sorry, I was thinking of his son Jeff. I've always been of the opinion that Tim was better than Jeff and people on these forums crucified me for that. Tim was exceptional to be sure. Stupendous for sure.

Here's a couple of my favorites;

Based on pure skill? I wouldn't even know where to begin. All I know is that Wilson, Perry, Tim Buckley, Halford, and Tate would definitely be there.

I also prefer Tim to Jeff, but Jeff is not overrated by any stretch.
Both are two of the best of all time when it comes to conveying emotion.

Yep, pure skill. Great to see you putting Halford in your list.

Halford is a freak vocally. Nothing special tone-wise, and he lacks Dickinson's melodic brilliance, but as far as pure technicality hes damn hard to beat.

I was comparing his performances from the late 70's and 80's to recent. He's improved considerably since then, an indication he works hard at improving his craft.

Jackie Wilson's versatility is blowing me away. The man could rip it up like James Brown (Brand New Thing), sing tender ballads (Crazy She Calls Me), operatic bombast (Forever And A Day), old folk tunes (Danny Boy), gospel (You'll Never Walk Alone), and more. Dude was a freak.
