How is Dancing Queen stereotypically gay? :what?:

Somebody here mentioned Superstar. I would really love to hear him sing that. (amongst many other songs). Keep it simple, and just sing it.

Karen Carpenter had a really pure and clean tone that I love, and I think Lambert's voice would do this song justice if he didn't go too OTT.

I am enjoying WWFM on his acoustic EP. Best acoustic version that I have heard.

Classic rock is being used too liberally here....

Putting Enter Sandman , WLL and Born to be wild all under the 'classic rock' banner just sounds wrong....they are quite different from one another......

quality pop music is appreciated. however, his vocals demand respect and music like gaga's wouldnt really help him.....

anyway - IF Lambert got an album out of covers - in a manner where i would appreciate his delivery , then this is the setlist of 10 songs I can think of......

Communication Breakdown - Led Zeppelin
Jesus Christ Pose - Soundgarden
Welcome to the Jungle - Guns n Roses
Lover you should have come over - Jeff Buckley
Dirty Diana - Michael Jackson
Mother Father - Journey
All in Love is Fair - Stevie Wonder
Danny Boy - Jackie Wilson
I will always love you - Whitney Houston
I drove all night - Roy Orbison

Hmmmm.... a very interesting list indeed, Yousha.I think Danny Boy is a given, considering the Brigadoon CTMBTM, don't you? Led Zeps CB is unusual but I like it...yeah...I can see that too.
Jesus Christ Pose..meh...Adam is a Jew so that choice might be a bit too risky, lol.I've no doubt he could do it vocal justice and then some but not nuts about that song..just me.
Welcome to the Jungle..now you're talkin! I think Adam would tear it up! And damn.....the Jeff Buck tune...magic touch Yousha...what a choice for a soft ballad, love it.
As far as the Journey song you chose....can you tell me the thinking behind that? Just one of your favs or do you think it's more vocally challenging than, say, Faithfully, Open Arms, etc? Just curious.(the falsetto part at the end would be cool to hear from Lambert, for sure)
As far as Dirty Diana, I also like that choice...and after hearing Adam sing Black and White, I've no doubt he could do that justice as well.
The Wonder number is one I'm not familiar with so I listened to it....I love it, thanks! Again, after watching all of Lambert's Upright Caberet performances,...excellent choice, imho.
Orbison's Drove All Night is also not that well known, generally but yeah...I can hear Lambert doing that.
The one that stumped me, TBH was Whitney's I will Always Love You....again, prompting me to ask, why that one? I think I'd rather hear him sing Madonna's "Ray of Light"...since I heard the soundcheck where he sang a bit of that and it sounded awesome! But you had your reason for listing Whitney's song so just curious. Overall, I like your list. And I agree that if it's really good pop, then that would also be ok, imo.He just has such a killer voice that I agree that Gaga does him no favors and he should distance himself from that type of pop.Thanks...awaiting your response. :thumb:

why thank you for such an elaborate post on my 'wish list' queen.... let me elaborate....

1st of all, I chose most songs based on what he could do vocally with them, and usually challenging songs vocally as well. I also put in a lot of variation to make it a versatile album, soul, pop, metal, hard rock, according to a personal taste too of course... now let me elaborate my choices

1st - Journey song - Mother Father is BY FAR one of the toughest songs to sing technically, Perry himself would tire himself out while doing it live....certainly the toughest Journey song to sing, and I could hear a lot of runs thrown in there by Lambert...

LZ song - CB is almost a given for ANY singer with good switching and a superb head voice.....

Whitney song - a personal fave, and one of the best and technically demanding vocal performances from a female ever.....and I believe due to his generally poppy phrasing, he would be brilliant....but it's probably if done the right way to most difficult song on this list beside Mother Father....

Timi - dude....I said IF HE COULD DO IT TO MY PREFERENCE......I think he sucked at born to be wild too, and im not too fond of his WLL either......so it's not about suiting his voice , cause I dont think those suit his voice too.....but he would nail them i think, especially JCP , another song any singer with a good head voice should attempt......

Challenging-check! Versatile-check! Demanding-check! Good head- voice-double check!
I was fairly sure those were your reasons but how very nice of you to verify :thumb: And I agree that it would be very interesting to hear the vocal runs he would be sure to throw in, on all but esp. the Journey number.
There was a time when I may have insisted that to sound right and rock, one had to have "rasp" but not anymore.IF he wanted, there is no doubt he can "growl" and rasp with the best of them but that probably wouldn't be wise, from the standpoint of protecting the vocal chords...am I right?
And for the record, I loved BTBW as well as Wild Cherry's "Play That Funky Music"....I think he took some brave chances that paid off on Idol.BTW...what do you think about Ray of Light for him also?

These two would NEVER suit Adam's voice: "Welcome to the Jungle" is basically a kickass song with badass vocals, it basically needs this raspy, 'mean' tone which Adam doesn't have.
"Jesus Christ Pose" is dark and gloomy, Cornell sounds like devil there. I could never in my life imagine Lambert as a devil, more like the hero!

Also, about AI, I hate that they are always trying to find polished sounds for singers. Everyone screws up sometimes, and they make fucking big deal of it in AI. Fuck that competition, there have been many vocalists with talent, that program seriously destroys them.
American Idol = Destroys talent, sucks away originality and does everything that is bad for musicians. Why the hell is it still so popular!?

Wha...?? You can't imagine Lambert as the "Devil"?? How quickly they forget...

As for your question about Idol still being popular...Lambert being on the show spelled its doom..like Tale of Two Cities..."it was the best of times, it was the worst of times".....Idol will be over within the next couple of years, is my prediction.Oh! And I had a giggle from Curiosity's comment also..."HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH!"

Which number, from Superstar, Cougar? I'd love to hear him sing Gethsemene.
Just a thought on the many peeps that have expressed a desire to hear him "not too OTT"....I have a sneaky suspicion that most of us, if we found ourselves on the autobahn in a Lamborghini, would flat out go balls to the walls because we COULD.
Why drive such a machine like any old clunker? JMHO...(shrugs) J/S.........

Of course it is cool that he showcases his skills but sometimes he overdoes them, imo.

Agreed. I tried to think of a cover song where he would have to control himself and keep it simple. Nothing came to my mind but I'd love to hear that kind of performance from him. Like what he did with Dust in the Wind. I usually like him best when he's just singing, not showing off and overdoing it. Yeah, we all know already he can wail out impossibly high notes - and impossibly loud too - but that's not what makes a great singer, IMO. So there's no need to do it all the time.

That performance is badass but it could never match the darkness and the evilness of performances like "Jesus Christ Pose" etc. Lambert has more of 'good man's voice', he would perfect as a hero in the movie!

that performance is NOT badass -

if there;s anything Lambert cant be even if he cuts his throat, its being badass....

Definition of badass:

"Well I'm a west coast struttin', one bad mutha
Got a rattlesnake suitcase under my arm
Said I'm a mean machine, been drinkin' gasoline
And honey you can make my motor hum"

Sorry, can't picture Adam singing it.

just....in a very very gay and non-badass manner.....with his poppy phrasing .....

Exactly. Adam can be pretty cool because he has a ton of confidence and charisma, but badass? No. You need to have some grit for that.

Meh...smoke and mirrors....one can BE a badass without sounding like one. Conversely, one can SOUND badass, without BEING one.
Some "rockers" put on a badass image in public but are wusses in real life. Others really live a badass lifestyle and many either die young or now have health problems and/or can't sing for shit.
Besides, as Lovitz often said on SNL...."ACTING!" As Lambert told the panel in his audition, "I can sang...."
