Hey guys, so it's time to revive the Vocalist section. We're going to clean it up, start being productive, and help it reclaim its former glory!

So the first step to this is to weed out the ridiculous number of topics that we have here. I am going to go through and get rid of any thread that only has 1 - 3 pages and any thread that has been inactive for a long time: probably anything that has gone over a few months of activity will be axed.

If you want to make a special request that we keep a certain thread, speak up now. Otherwise, I am going to assume either (a) people don't really care about that topic, or (b) those of you who do care about that topic are not active members of this section of the forum.

The second step will be to hammer out an accurate, objective 100 Greatest Rock Singers list for Lew to put on the main site. This needs to be done and is a long, long time coming. I will recruit some support from other parts of the forum and try to get back some of the posters who have been scared away by our technical talk over the past couple years.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let the purge begin!

Sounds good, I hope it works!
The DDD deserves this sub-forum back to how it was.

I hope the people who still frequent this place are happy with this: this sort of thing is the main reason I don't.

Nobody seems to ever come here and say exactly why they've chosen to quit frequenting the site, so how are we supposed to know how to keep traffic up?

Wow, you've done a massive cleanup. Even some topics that were more than 5 pages.

Most of which didn't have any posts in them since 2011. This section is/was dying so we have to change how things operate. Making a separate thread for everyone's favorite singer actually leads to less traffic, imo. I left all the threads up that were even fairly active recently, had a very large number of posts, or where it was clear a great deal of work had gone into them.

I don't understand what removing inactive threads is gonna achieve tbh.

Trying to change the dynamic of the thread a little bit. As I said (somewhere), I think that making threads for every singer that we feel like actually drives traffic down and keeps people from listening to material from that singer. For example, how often did click on the Mark Boals thread if they weren't fans of his already?

I'm trying to facilitate more discussion and discourse by condensing the number of threads that we have.

Still don't get the reasoning behind this.

I get the reasoning behind deleting inactive threads. If a thread hasn't been posted in for more than a year, why keep it around? Unless it contains a wealth of information, I doubt it's a great loss. I just deleted several old threads over at the guitar forum, but only ones that were more than a year old, and not part of any official or interesting lists.

I do agree that deleting active threads is a poor decision, because active threads with quality content is exactly what we need.

That wasn't the reasoning though.
