to me it's definitely on par with Hail to the Thief and maybe Amnesiac

It is definitely better than both of those albums and at least on par with The Bends.

The King of Limbs is on par with The Bends, but all the albums in between are better.

ok

ive never thought it fair in my own head to compare albums like the bends and king of limbs. literally the only similarity is that is made by the same band. two completely different monsters.

I know some people on here already know about this, but it's pretty important to actually experience for yourself.

Oh yeah, I remember reading through that stuff about a year ago (I think you posted it, actually, but referenced a different website). Fucking insane. I mean, what are the odds that that stuff was a coincidence?

It's definitely not a coincidence. If you take the parallels seriously it reveals a whole lot about how the sign systems which tend to be used in the Radiohead-centric "music fan" contingent (which Pitchfork are obviously the unofficial curators of, though RYM reinforces it in its own brainwashed sheeple-like way) actually operate. The innate human desire for God-related transcendence is exploited through themes of postmodern alienation ("I wish that they'd swoop down in a country lane / Late at night when I'm driving / Take me on board their beautiful ship") but ten years later this is revealed to be a demonic, Faustian mistake ("I have no idea what I am talking about / I'm trapped in this body and can't get out"). The outerspace transcendence / netherworld entrapment binary pattern breaks the whole Radiohead discography wide open. And it can obviously be seen in other artists as well (most notably the two latest FlyLo albums). Against Demons tour. There are those who read binary and those who don't.
