Can someone recommend some essential Ritchie Hawtin albums/mixes? Seeing him next week and wanna prepare!

His Plastikman material is essential, of course -- particularly Sheet One, Musik, and Consumed. As for Hawtin's mix work, you can't go wrong with Decks, EFX & 909.

Will do. It's gonna be a good one - Nico Jaar is playing as well.

yeah all 3 de9 series releases are essential georgi (decks, CttE, Transitions)

his sound cloud page has a lot of good live sets too.

pretty envious man, I could've saw him at Coachella but we couldn't get into the actual stage he was playing at since it was too crowded.

Let me know how NicoLAS Jaar is. The Darkside album is warming me up to him.

I'm trying to make a playlist for when I'm programming, and I need some electronic music that suits the task. Chill is good, but not too down tempo. I have a bit of a makeshift one in spotify now, but it needs some work. Songs like the below seem to fit the bill. Yeah so any ideas much appreciated!

I've found that Jan Jelinek, Monolake, Trentemoller and Amon Tobin's trip-hoppier material (think Out From Out Where and Supermodified) are pretty good for programming.

Other than that, I like listening to minimal wave as well - oh, and Detroit techno. They both have this dilapidated vibe that really goes well with data structures.

It's a shame I'm not the greatest programmer, though. :(

thanks man. All good recs. Interesting enough to keep me focused, but not distracting.
Btw, I'm sure you're a betting programmer than me by now. My programs are derivative as fuck.

So, Above & Beyond have recently been playing gigs featuring acoustic versions of their music. And apparently two nights ago, Skrillex joined them on stage for a jam session. Gotta say I'm pleasantly surprised by this performance. (No bass drops, thankfully.)

I listened to Gary Numan's new album today and was really surprised by how much I liked it. The whole time I was thinking to myself "WTF this is the Cars guy?" I guess I've been pretty ignorant of everything he's done in the last two decades so it looks like I have some catching up to do. Just in time too, because I have an opportunity to see him next weekend and now I think I'll take advantage of it.

That's fucking awesome. I'd definitely see Numan.

Yeah, "the 'Cars' guy" is unfortunately what he's known as to most folks, though Numan's virtually a demi-god in synth-pop and even industrial circles.

I may have to check out that new album.

Waiting for the day I finally stop returning to Electronic Dream. The final three tracks are especially gorgeous and worth spending some time with even if you dismiss the rest of the album.
