Please note that this the the AV Club, not the Onion.

OK just saw this. Second screen stuff is bad enough with fucking TV shows but in a goddamn movie theater? Fucking hell what a shitty idea. The piece nails the ridiculousness of this of course but let's stop catering to the fucking attentionspanless twats out there before our entire culture becomes hopelessly and irrevocably degraded

Do you think a film is bad if hours or days after someone viewed it that can pick apart the plot and realize that a lot of it probably doesn't hole up to scrutiny? Films like Inception or Skyfall probably can't hold up to picking apart the plot yet at the time of viewing them I was sucked into them and was able to suspend my disbelief through their entirety. Does all good art have to be great all the time or by drawing you into its world, no matter how unbelievable, and making you forget anything else is that itself good art?

Criticizing a film based on plot holes is often ridiculous if the film is more concerned with other things. Films are symbolic/perceptual experiences, not logical games.

Yes, but are Hollywood blockbusters concerned with other things?

Yes. They are often concerned with questions of morality, patterns of emotion, and politics, to name just a few.

In my experience plot holes matter only to the extent the story is the focus or to the extent the plot holes interfere with the movies other things.

Yay more mini-studios shifting from indie/arthouse to genre fare, that's exactly what we need. *suicide.gif*

I remember watching that movie in high school. Zizek is always entertaining.

Heads up Russian Ark is being rereleased (!?) so if you want to see it on the big screen check your local listings in the coming weeks to see if it hits your area. I know it's playing here tomorrow and Wednesday.
