This just confirms my suspicion that in order to like Star Wars you must be bad at paying attention to specifics of expression.

like you spamming this thread for five fucking pages with incomprehensible megaposts and bullshit analogies, claiming insane intellectual high ground (beyond the point of irony, it seems to me) and insulting everyone who likes a movie you don't along the way?

please stop.

What do you mean beyond the point of irony? What does attention to specifics have to do with me making a bunch of joke posts? The context and even the content of my posts are being ignored. Everyone on here knows I can be reasonable when I want to so I think my joke posts deserve a little benefit of the doubt. As I said to Vil, I don't feel condescending to Star Wars fans whatsoever, and I don't think the films are evil; I think they are overrated. I am having fun engaging in self-parody because I enjoy the ambiguity between what it looks like to be totally honest and what it looks like to be a troll--but then maybe I am just not well practiced at it (although it didn't seem to give Sherick any problems). Starting my own film class which teaches you that Star Wars is shit by watching films you have to explain the greatness of, including Star Wars? How clear does it have to be for you guys to understand that I am making fun of Star Wars and my own highly contradictory and specific tastes at the same time? For art fans you don't have much of a concept of theatricality. You respond to my posts with the hatred of ambiguity of a conservative talk radio host.

All the DDD forum's a stage,
And all the posters merely players.
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one poster in his time plays many parts,
His acts being six ages. At first the lurker,
Peering inside the circus and stroking his bald chin.
Then the newb, flopping and blundering
In the regulars' eyes. Then, the aspiring listmaker
With his criteria and fanboy enthusiasm,
Crafting arguments without logic or sense.
And then the flatterer, eking out witticisms,
Fawning in manner made to the regulars' fancy.
Then an initiate, full of strange oaths,
Bearded like a Bulgarian,
Generous in honour, slow in quarrel,
Relishing the bubble reputation
Even in booboo's mouth. And then, the regular,
In fair round belly, with a good callous earned,
With eyes severe, and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws, and modern instances,
And so he plays his part. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere troll,
Off topic, ALL CAPS, rickrolling, aloof.

there is a difference though between being an intentional and selectively masked provocateur and being a "mere troll"

I apologise for my overreaction. You were too systematically theatrical for me to get it and I'm super sorry for having broken that streak...

But Baraka/Samsara are still way overrated. And, for what it's worth, Star Wars is too, no matter how much I enjoy the film. (fyi, I only watch the despecialised version ever since I first heard about Harmy's blog. From you, I think.)

also, very nice, George.

Bleh, everything I do is an overreaction. Thanks for the apology but honestly I need to get off of here for a day probably. This is just spillover imaginative energy that isn't being put into my writing, blugh.

Also, for all you Star Wars fans who have been annoyed by me, I have out from the library Paglia's last book, Glittering Images, on the history of art which culminates in the final sequence of Revenge of the Sith. I was very skeptical of this appraisal as the greatest work of visual art of the past half century at first, and I still am (because I think a lot of it is because she just really isn't deeply engaged in what is happening in the arts world over the past 15 years so there's a lot of things she would like if she knew about them), but it is actually an extremely well written and convincing chapter. Not convincing about Star Wars being the best, at least not to me, but very convincing about Star Wars as something that is in continuity with the greatest achievements of western culture from a fairly learned perspective. The videos where she talks about it and the articles online don't really do the chapter justice. I would suggest looking for it in your local library if only to read that last chapter (although you should just read the whole book).

Like I said, I was only wondering if you were 90% trolling or 100% trolling. :thumb:

Hm. Yeah, I guess I didn't realize you were joking or playing with that dynamic between trolling and honesty at all. If you were, sorry.
