in the case of fox and sony they have to keep doing it otherwise they'll lose the rights to those characters, i think. sometimes it can lead to good stuff like daredevil but most often it doesn't.

How Hollywood Tinkers With Evolution To Grow New Spielbergs in a Lab
"The darkest timeline I can imagine is one in which the breakout writer-director of Sundance 1992 is presented with a planeload of currency and an offer he can’t refuse, and two years later Quentin Tarantino follows Reservoir Dogs with Beverly Hills Cop III and never gets around to Pulp Fiction."

I don't disagree, but doesn't the exposure of directing one of the cynical cash grabs allow for more artistic expression down the road? Plus for every Tarantino there's a hundred other directors who wouldn't amount to anything if they were given a franchise or not. Darkest timeline or not.

But he looks like Peter Parker does in the comic book! So that's excellent casting, right?

even more important, does this signal its long awaited release in the very near future? For such a weak year for crit releases, ending with the Apu Trilogy and possibly that would automatically raise it to one of the best.
