damn Mason, that's more than me even. Do you work a lot/are rich? I think the great thing about getting into film now is that you don't have to worry about double or triple dipping on releases. You're getting the best possible quality in movies from the get go that past cinephiles had to re-buy, which explains the plethora of blu's you have. |

I did my share of jobs in post-high school pre-college limbo. That and I'm not yet in the position to pay money for things other than Blu-rays. And I don't think we're out of the woods yet when it comes to shitty home media releases of movies. You still have room for a better hi-def transfer and get the occasional fuck-up of a transfer for a classic title. Even Criterion's guilty of it... |

Yeah, you can add earrings of Madame de to that as well. Possibly the most disappointing release of the year |

Jesus fuck I didn't even know about the Criterion sale. Anyway, I just bought To the Wonder and I'm super excited. I don't care about its lukewarm reception. |

Picked up the Repo Man Criterion and it easily has the best packaging and accompanying booklet of the ones I have so far. |

Yeah a lot of people didn't like the cover but I think the packaging is magnificent. Great release too. Love it when cult films make it into the collection for a fresher perspective. Might blind buy Seconds from all the good things I've heard. |

I think anyone who blind buys a Criterion is insane but Seconds is definitely worth it if anything is. For me probably a top 20 film for the 60s and a top 10 film for science fiction. I wish my first viewing was on a Blu, damn. |

Blind buying is so much fun. The feeling of not knowing what you are going to get and then being blown away is one of the best feelings. |

Idk. Criterions are mad expensive, and some films you end up hating despite their reputatin. I know I'm lucky that my library basically gets all of their releases so I can check them out first, but still... |

What the fuck? No. Blind buying Criterions or Masters of Cinemas is the most fun you can have at shopping for DVDs or blus. How great the pleasure of discovering a masterpiece and having seen it in the best possible way that is not a newly restored 35mm print! |

I must confess that I have the privilege of working two small jobs, one where I get paid in Blu and DVDs, and another where I get paid by getting the keys to the cinema and watching any movie I want to on the big screen. On the other hand, I live in Belgium where there is no good streaming for any kind of movie (no netflix, no hulu, no nothing) and the most prolific distributing company here, A-film, is terrible: they never add any extras to their DVDs, their transfers are not very good and sometimes very bad, the audio is often off and the covers don't look cool. |

yeah blind buying till i die. I've never actually been disappointed in a criterion I have bought. Maybe the movie, but there's so much contextualizing that Crit does that each release I get feels like owning a work of art. Tho from the sounds of it, Drew is speaking from a poor man's perspective, which I can totally understand. I'm not saying I'm making the Forbes list, but I find criterion and other great disc releases a pretty precious part of my life. |
