I guess I can see it. Though I wouldn't say Townshend's peak was greater than Hendrix's. But Pete definitely gets the longevity aspect.

and if you're trying to be remotely objective there Wanted, then you REALLY need to see Townshend

aint a list Echoes, but ive loved PJ as a live band for a while, though Vedder is definitely the member to look out for in their case

Clapton vs. Allman is so incredibly hard though.
On one hand, Clapton was one of the forefathers of improv soloing in a 'jam band' context, and has a shitload of quality live material.
On the other hand, Allman was probably the best improviser in rock...

But yes, those are definitely the top 5, any way you slice it.

They are MUCH more known for their studio work, I'm not sure their 'greatness' stature is really that significant. They were awesome live, but I don't know how much influence they've had.
