Holy shit what about Brian May? Dude's awesome when he's life. Good example of talent and stage presence.

Really big stage presence and great singer as well.

Yeah good point, but I think it would lessen the positions of guys like Allman and Hendrix, who died way too soon.
I guess "creativity" is kinda....already covered under improvisation, so I see no need for it.

So basically what we've got is this:

-Reputation as a live player
-Improvisation
-Consistency (still on the fence with this one)

It really is impossible to compare Clapton and Hendrix in this context....I mean they are pretty much tied in rep and improv, with Clapton obviously taking consistency.

What would lessen the position of Hendrix and Allman? Those guys are going to be high as it is when you think about it. I see Allman as a solid number 2 spot. Consistency throughout one's career should be easier on the players who didn't live as long if anything because if anything most players start to run out of gas live later in their careers(ie Blackmore was easily best live in his early days, though I love all his stuff) I think it has to be part of the criteria personally. It's a big part of what makes a guitarist good in general.

But who's to say that Allman or Hendrix wouldn't have run out of gas if they lived? This is my point, you cant really prove it...

I think Blackmore remained an excellent guitarist for longer than you seem to believe...

No fucking way. Page had a much more enigmatic and innovative stage persona.

Agreed. Blackmore was a beast in the 90s.

I'd also dare to say that Iommi also didn't lose any skill as the time progressed.

Enigmatic? Perhaps.
Innovative? Hardly.

Angus was explosive. HE was the true frontman of AC/DC. The visual aspect and the energy was pretty much all about him.

Frantic movements don't always add up to stage presence.

Who says they do?

I stand firm in Young > Page in stage presence.
Of course Page gets improv, and reputation could go either way probably.

What reputation does Angus have as a live guitarist?

By the way, can you name at least one good live solo by Angus?

I never claimed he was a 'better' player than Page, he's obviously more limited and repetitive.
But he does easily rival Page in stage presence (I still think he beats him actually), and his reputation is neck-in-neck with Page's too, I'd say.

Yeah personally I prefer Page over Angus, by quite a bit actually. Page was my first real 'guitar God', and watching TSRtS as a kid had a profound effect on me.

I'm just saying Angus does have a shot.

You know, I still think of TSRtS as Page's best live document. Certainly Angus could have never pulled off something like No Quarter, Dazed, Since I've Been Loving You, and Stairway from that album/video.

So that leaves reputation, I guess I need some votes on who you guys think has more reputation as a live player - Jimmy or Angus?
