How can you miss Michael Schenker for stage presence? And then how do you miss Townshend for reputation as a live player?

I have never seen a video of him. Can you post some?

Yeah good point, but I think it would lessen the positions of guys like Allman and Hendrix, who died way too soon.
I guess "creativity" is kinda....already covered under improvisation, so I see no need for it.

So basically what we've got is this:

-Reputation as a live player
-Improvisation
-Consistency (still on the fence with this one)

It really is impossible to compare Clapton and Hendrix in this context....I mean they are pretty much tied in rep and improv, with Clapton obviously taking consistency.

What would lessen the position of Hendrix and Allman? Those guys are going to be high as it is when you think about it. I see Allman as a solid number 2 spot. Consistency throughout one's career should be easier on the players who didn't live as long if anything because if anything most players start to run out of gas live later in their careers(ie Blackmore was easily best live in his early days, though I love all his stuff) I think it has to be part of the criteria personally. It's a big part of what makes a guitarist good in general.

But who's to say that Allman or Hendrix wouldn't have run out of gas if they lived? This is my point, you cant really prove it...

I think Blackmore remained an excellent guitarist for longer than you seem to believe...

There are few people on this site who like Blackmore more than me, I give him a lot of credit. He's always been great, all I said was that he wasn't as good for a minute or two. I still love all his stuff, he's always been fantastic.

Interesting I'd never thought of putting Angus in the top 10 before. But his stage presence was absolutely off the charts, admittedly probably even greater than Page's...

No fucking way. Page had a much more enigmatic and innovative stage persona.

Enigmatic? Perhaps.
Innovative? Hardly.

Angus was explosive. HE was the true frontman of AC/DC. The visual aspect and the energy was pretty much all about him.

Especially when Bon passed away and we had Brian instead.

I can't even talk live guitar players without showing this. This guy is an animal live...

And even though I'm not super into him, Rory Gallagher certainly had a great rep as a live player. So did Gary Moore.

Yeah I'm not really into him either, but Gallagher is damn good. Something about his voice just totally turns me off to the music. Awesome player though.

Did you check out the clip Creep? I should have specified that it's not Gallagher, it's Nuno Bettencourt. I urge you to watch the guy's live stuff if you haven't. Great stage presence and has a lot of fire in his playing live. It'd be nice to see him in the mix once we have a bigger list.

It's funny you said that Creep! It was exactly what it was for me. I listened to a bit of "Calling Card"(Brilliant guitar work) His voice is just too generic I guess. He doesn't do his own thing vocally like Clapton or Vaughan. It just sounds like a bar-singers voice to me and I aint into that.

I'll check it out.

Rick sent me four Gallagher CD's a while back, I still have them.

As much as I absolutely ADORE Clapton as a guitarist, his voice never did much for me at all.
Stevie, on the other hand, is a different story. One of the best white blues voices ever...

I like Claptons' voice but what I mean I guess is that it sticks out as a unique instrument in the music. Gallagher's just doesn't. It's generic. I would say Stevie is by far my favorite blues singer actually. Great sounding live too.

Fuck yes!
That reminds me, this is probably SRV's best performance, and the meanest, nastiest version of Tin Pan Alley that I've ever heard.

I don't agree with stage presence going to Townshend over Page.

Show me a better example of stage presence than this one:

Or this one:

Page was a monster live.

Again, Bones is right.

I cant see how someone could seriously believe that Page had more exciting stage presence than Townshend.

You must be joking, and this is coming from the biggest Zephead in the universe.
