You know of what I am talking about. Let me say it this way: Guitarists that have just played professionally only during the 90´s and 00´s. |

why does it matter when they turned professional? i'd say the 90s and early 00s arguably represent beck's artistic peak. and i can say the same for either a half or a third of those guitarists. also if i'm not mistaken trucks and govan turned pro in the 90s. |

Echoes wrote: According to you, the only thing that makes EVH greater is that he is the greatest guitarists of his generation. Fine. If that is the ultimate criteria (and I totally agree with it), then move Cobain and White in the top 10. Eddie Van Halen revolutionized guitar playing. Cobain and White's styles are emphatically retro. You can't see the difference in greatness? |

I have to admire Echoes persistence, but he doesnt seem to be able to grasp the simple fact that this is a 'greatest rock guitarist' list and not a 'greatest rock band' or 'greatest rock icon' list etc. Surely, to be on a greatest rock guitarist list, you have to be able to play the instrument and as far as that goes, Kurt was mediocre (at best). He has no versatility as a guitarist. The influence (huge as it was) came from the band and their attitudes and image. His creativity was as a songwriter and frontman, not as a guitarist. Every now and then there is a anti-establishment revolution in rock. Nirvana were the right band in the right place at the right time, but I see little or no difference betwen Punk and the early Grunge scene and I couldnt see Steve Jones or Mick Jones in the top 50 ! |

Echoes is like the Terminator. He can't be reasoned with. He can't be bargained with. And he absolutely will not stop, ever. |

Yeah, an 80´s shredder, the reincarnation of Duane Allman and Govan (I will not give my opinion of his inclusion in the top 100). Rock is so dead. When Sampson said that rock guitar driven rock was dead, I kind of convince him otherwise, but I have finally understand what all of you have been talking about. You finally broke me. |

This has to be one of the worst rock guitar performances of all time: George: Can you please erase all of them from the list? |

Yeah, what we need is more second-rate blues rock and punk players to really shake the foundations of modern guitar rock, ushering in a new era of innovation and experimentation. Jackass. As an aside, have you actually heard any Buckethead? |

Ah yes, so Buckethead's entire career can be summed up with: "an '80s shredder" Brilliant. |

As an aside, have you actually heard any Buckethead? You are right. Both of them should be removed immediately form the list. Pinhead. Who knows 100% of Buckethead´s work? He has tons of albums. I personally love Population Override, Colma and Electric Tears. I finally got Chinese Democracy and I will listen to that album asap. He has great technique and feeling. However, this list is called greatest rock guitarist, so IMO he is nowhere near the top of the best guitarists from the last 20 years: 1. Cobain 2. White 3. Radiohead 4. Frusciante 5. Pearl Jam 6. Cantrell 7. Morello 8. Matt Bellamy 9. Dimebag 10. Trucks 11. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez 12. Zakk Wylde 13. Josh Homme 14. Kim Thayil 15. Billy Corgan 16. Graham Coxon 17. Noel Gallagher 18. Buckethead This list is Heavy Metal/Shredder heaven, so that is why Buckethead is so ahead of all other guitarists from the 90´s and 00´s. But who cares? Guitar driven rock has been dead now for 22 years so fuck them all. As an aside, have you actually heard any Jack White? |

The only difference that I see is that he can play with feeling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJa9kaT7Lms I know that Buckethead has other great guitar work, however, most of it can hardly qualify as rock. |

I also now agree with Bruce when he speaks about heavy metal: Bruce wrote: Sabbath's influence is very isolated. It is huge on one relatively small sub-genre (heavy metal) and pretty much nonexistent on any other parts of rock and roll.
