Ah yes, I was initially vary about moving him that high, but more listens, including actually meeting the guy and watching him play, had me convinced that he would indeed be a fine example of the modern rock virtuoso who came to prominence in the last 10-15 years.

Any songs, albums, something where I can hear him?

That´s a great song and its so ahead of its time.

BTW, what do you think of EVH being ahead of Blackmore?

... my thought has generally been ...

Hendrix
Beck
Clapton or Page
Blackmore
EVH

however, I do understand the reasoning for EVH within the current placement .... Take care

You know technically Eddie Van Halen is a lot better than Clapton, Page, Beck, and even Hendrix himself sorry I said it but that's how I feel. I think Ritchie Blackmore was almost a classical guitarist playing rock music. Very hard to compare these guitarists as all of them were using different styles.

Songwriting or how you communicate your instrument is the most important aspect of guitar playing. There have been plenty of technical wizards but many of them don't have a clue in crafting a song together.

Hendrix could also be removed from the #1 spot. Again, he has not influenced any important guitarist during the last 2 decades. No one carries his torch anymore.

On the other hand, Clapton and Allman should be #1 and #2. They have huge influence over Trucks and Haynes. Their rock guitar legacy endures.

Come on man you don't believe that about Hendrix. You are making us Beatles fans look bad with that remark.

A lot of the modern rock bands were influenced by Hendrix like Pearl Jam, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers to name a few.

i think you're wrong... every one of them has a unique skill set that others don't have... the worst thing i can say about any of them is, with the exception of clapton, they can get very sloppy live (though in the case of page and hendrix it had to do with alcohol or drugs)... i don't think evh could come close to playing like beck, same way beck couldn't play like eddie (but i do feel beck may be a bit more versatile and can do more)

What? Echoes is making himself look bad, not all Beatles fans. If you're talking about you and Echoes, you both made yourself look bad a few pages ago on this thread

Yeah, Frusciante and McCready are two of the greatest rock guitarists ever. Top 5 guitarists of the 90´s and 00´s. (Which BTW is 1/3 of rock guitar history). IMO, they are the guitarists of my generation.

My problem is their place on the list. Anything below 60-70 spot is just wrong.

Pick someone ranked above them and explain why you think Frusciante and/or McCready are greater by the criteria.

Haynes vs Frusciante

Originality: Tie
Influence: Frusciante by a landslide

Now I think that guitar driven rock is not dead (thanks to Rolling Stone Magazine).

They included my favorite rock guitar albums in their list of best albums of 2010.

The Dead Weather – Sea of Cowards at #11
Black Keys – Brothers at #2

You can´t use any more that arugument in here mister.

Not a long time ago, an editor called Page a dead bluesmen cover guitarist. (quote of the year btw).

Also, at least for now, I am not saying that Frusciante is original, I´m just saying that he is as original as Warren Haynes.

The editor called Led Zeppelin a dead bluesmen cover band, which is somewhat true, since quite a few songs from their first and second albums are very similar to songs by dead bluesmen.

And Frusciante is not original. On 'Californication' and 'By The Way', there is no original guitar playing, he simply derived the technique on those albums from Vini Reilly, Fugazi and The Cure. The guitar work on their most popular song, 'Under The Bridge', draws heavily from David Bowie's 'Andy Warhol' in the intro, and the E major seventh chord that halts the song a couple of times is ripped off from T-Rex's 'Rip Off'. Frusciante himself said he ripped off T-Rex in 'Under The Bridge'. Frusciante is nowhere near original. That goes to Haynes. So, going by the examples you gave us before:
Originality: Haynes
Influence: Frusciante
Creativity: Tie
Skill: Haynes
That's 2-1 to Haynes.
