Influence. I've heard sevaral top 20 guitarists naming Gallagher as an influence.

Could you elaborate on this, maybe show how Gallagher influenced these guitarists? Like Bolin, who was an influence on Jeff Beck, and is noted as a very important player in the development of the jazz fusion movement of the '70s onwards, one of the few with enough rock credentials to appear on this list.

What about Brian May saying that he owes his sound to Rory? They sound nothing alike but still.

Yes, that is one reason why he's so high on the list. Reminds me of how EVH would copy Clapton solos for hours when he was younger, but ended up sounding nothing like Clapton.

I agree with GButler on Iommi > EVH, but it's hardly worth arguing about. I'm sure Yngtchie and George are absolutely fed up with all this discussion focusing only on the top 10.

I don't agree at all that Iommi > EVH but it's been discussed to death over the past 7 years. We were having some good discussions in this thread until GButler came along and brought us back to square one. :ugh:

Don't be pedantic. Clapton is the one who EVH has always said was the biggest influence on him.

You jump all over people when they say the same thing about Jack White.

Except Jack White isn't really a blues guitarist.

White's music and thus guitar style has always been a hybrid of blues, garage rock/punk and power pop. He isn't purely one thing in particular.

Bonawhogivesafuck is just one of those guys who plays the same kind of generic blues rock you hear in every bar in America. Smooths it up so it's just pleasant background music to which no serious attention needs to be paid. Guys like him are to the blues what Kenny G is to Jazz.

Thats more than a little unfair on Joe. BCC are a hard rock band. Check out his acoustic work. His hybrid picking is pretty good (with Danny Gatton as your teacher, thats hardly surprising). His new band Rock Candy Funk Party are playing 70's Jazz/Funk Rock.

Sure he is rooted in the blues, but then everyone is rooted somewhere. He tours his ass off around the world, releases a solo album every year and in the last 3 or 4 years has released at least 3 albums in a year. He's pretty well the hardest working guy in rock. And unlike Kenny G, there is no corporate organisation or label behind him. He and his business partner Roy Weisman are independant. They organise the tours, the merchandising, the recordings all themselves.

They run their own websites and forums and Joe posts and answers questions personally on a daily basis. That continues despite him now being pretty well the most talked about player of the moment.

EVH lose his technique? He had a streak in the 90s for sure but I've seen him twice in the past ten years and his playing right now is fantastic. The playing on the new Van Halen record is outstanding work. Definitely some chops there. I highly recommend it.

Because EVH is the most overrated guitarist of all time, and this list tends to further overrate him.

As for the 50-100 range, I already suggested moving Rory Gallagher a few slots up.

Posts like this may get you banned some day, it happened quite recently actually..so please try and refrain if you can. EVH is certainly not the most overrated player and if you truly think this you're going to need some evidence. I can guarantee you there is nothing you could say to prove EVH is truly the most overrated player. There are much more overrated players than him. You cannot overrate someone so important to the evolution of guitar and who has one of the most distinct voices in guitar playing history.

GButler is banned, let's try and get back to what we were discussing before the thread got derailed.

Surely the guy didn't deserve to be banned so quickly? I mean, I get it, but that was really quick.

Well he was actually Stryder on a different account. Not like they'd let him prance around before they banned him.
