You're just arguing semantics now. You're basically saying what I said. |

Not trying to be pedantic, I truly don't think he's ordinary. That would mean nothing about him stands out, which wouldn't be fair because he does have his own thing going on. I think a player can special even with a lack of versatility or skill. |

You picked the wrong forum bud. I really don't care about it lol I've been off and on here for nearly 10 years and I enjoy enough people and have fun conversations enough to keep coming back. Not concerned with my pallet or opinions coalescing with anyone else's. |

He's not a bad player at all. He's not bad but there's nothing particularly remarkable about his playing. I would describe him as just ordinary. Same here. He is an alright rhythm guitarist, and contributes greatly to the band's music, but he's nothing out of ordinary, really. His rhythms are actually fantastic. Cool tone as well. |

I'm not the biggest fan of Adam Jones, but I would definately argue that he's more than just an ordinary guitarist. As you said, Domino, he's got his own voice and a lot of his rhythm playing is quite interesting, IMO. |

Yeah calling him average in skill is one thing, but ordinary is just excessively mean. An ordinary guitarist would be any of the interchangable hair metal guys or the post grunge guys who are cookie cutter in every way. |

An ordinary guitarist would be any of the interchangable hair metal guys or the post grunge guys who are cookie cutter in every way. Or even a player like John Mayer. Sure he excels in blues chops but absolutely nothing stands out about him stylistically. His tone is very derivative and so is his phrasing. Calling him ordinary would be a lie. The reason Tool sound as rhythmically and tonally unique as they do imo is Adam's guitar sound and his riff style. That's what got to like them in the first place. |

but mayer is ordinary. the real lie would be putting him on a list of 'great' guitarists, no matter what position |

I should have made a new paragraph, I was saying calling Jones ordinary would be a lie, and that the word ordinary better applies to a guy like John Mayer. |
