This doesn't really belong here, but fans of The Departed may care: They captured Whitey Bulger. |

That actually looks kind of fun. If I had kids, I'd take them there. |

Throughout his career, Scorsese has always pushed himself, working across multiple formats (documentary, music video, commercials) and styles (French Impressionism, German Expressionism, Fifth Generation filmmaking in "Kundun"). Now it seems he's set out to make a fucking Chris Columbus movie. By the same token, it's also pretty openly a tribute to George Méliès and the Lumière brothers, so I'm actually pretty excited. |

Just watched New York, New York for the first time and it was actually very good..my anticipation was much less because of some of the negativity i've heard about it all along but i enjoyed it for the most part except when ugly old Minelli starts hogging the screen for the last 20 minutes! |

Yeah I can see why people are scoffing about this, but I'm genuinely interested in how a kids movie directed by Scorsese will turn out. And if it's good it's good, kids are just as deserving of quality entertainment as anyone else. |

Changed my senior thesis topic to how Taxi Driver reinterprets the myth of the American frontier. Best academic decision I have ever made. BTW, in addition to being the greatest Hollywood film probably ever, as far as I'm concerned Taxi Driver is the most ideologically disturbing artwork of the latter half of the 20th century. This coming from a guy who just did a close reading of Blood Meridian. |

This is an early version for a specific class assignment so it's limited to a strictly New Historical perspective. When it becomes my 15-page senior thesis it will also have broader cultural, evolutionary, and cognitive elements. I'd really appreciate any comments anyone can offer on this version, though. -*removed* |

Making Harvey Keitel dress to resemble a stereotypical Native American during the climax kept it from being too subtle. |

hugo is really good but i'm not sure how good i think it is yet. the first 45 minutes were amazing, but my excitement tapered a little after that, so i have to make sure i'm not underrating the second half by liking the first a lot more. i doubt kids will enjoy it very much. |
