Sandor Clegane

Quote:
Gravedigger
Many readers of the series believe that there are hints in what the Elder Brother has said about the Hound to Brienne of Tarth, that the Elder Brother considers "the Hound" to be simply an aspect of Sandor's personality — the same way that “the Cobbler Above” is an aspect of the Smith, who in turn is an aspect of the one God — and that Sandor himself may have survived and is living as a novice on the Quiet Isle's monastery. Some believe Sandor is the novice gravedigger espied by Brienne

It wasn't a real war. It's more likely he is fighting with Jaime at Riverrun next week.

The actual "Hold the Door" sequence itself was really well shot and executed, but the whole business with Hodor and the rushed bit of background on him was just rubbish from a writing and pacing perspective. Cram in all that crap to try to dramatize and heighten a character who (while basically big, goofy, affable but nothing more than FAMILIAR to the viewer after 6 seasons) is nothing but a large grunt and host body for the arc's main character felt unnecessary and overly convoluted relative to what was occurring.

Eh, I disagree. The holdor moment was necessary to get into bran's abilities, and with the time constraints of the show, i actually don't really see how they could have taken a much different approach.

i really liked this last episode too. Felt like the plot stuck with characters more, whereas there has been a lot of jumping around otherwise.

Um it was pretty important. In any case they've had their army in the field and involved a lot and he should be commanding their host

Wut? He's described by an Elder Brother as being "at rest" but in the very same scene in the books there's a mute gravedigger who just so happens to be Sandor's height and build.

I'd forgotten this

Tarly should have been at King's Landing with Lord Tyrrell. I agree with crx. It's out of character for him to be away from potential battle - big or small.

I think it's extremely minor, but whatever.

Family resemblance between father and son?

Also between [s]sisters [/s] cousins (Stannis's wife and Sam's mom).

Stannis' wife is related to her. Same house and cousins if I'm not mistaken.

Very transitional episode but did see Benjen confirmed as cold hands (or at least presumably that's who he is supposed to be)

In the commentary after the episode one of the two show runners called him, "Coldhands Benjen."

You're right. Cousins, not sisters. My mistake.

There's one major problem with that. Cersei came to him. He did not go to her. How did he expect to start his march to power? He is not a young man and the Faith Militant were a dead end to power until Cersei's folly. It's easy to read everything the High Sparrow does as his own quest for power, but what if he's actually sincere in everything he says?

Or maybe Bernie Sanders is much more of a wily politician out for personal gain than you want to think.

Btw, there was some groundwork for Tommen. S04e03, Tywin asks Tommen what the most important thing to be a great king is. He replies, "Holiness."

Yes, it's true that Cersei came to him first and was responsible for his rise. But I think it's pretty clear that he had aspirations that go beyond helping the poor.

Bernie was a bad example. I think my point still stands.

I think he expected his march to power to be slower or perhaps end in his death. He did not expect to be handed the fucking keys to the kingdom by Cercei's idiocy. And perhaps receiving the power he got corrupted him. He clearly does not care if he lives or dies which gives him a great deal of power.

And now having watched that political maneuver (and having been confirmed in the show that Cercei will use the Mountain in her trial by combat), I think he may even have an answer there.

Having now remembered the Sandor stuff is it possible that he's chosen as the champion when Cercei inevitably elects the Mountain? Or do we get a trial by 7?
