Yeah . So if you are seeing footage of actual genitals commingling the film does then technically contain unsimulated sex. What's simulated is not the sex but who is having it.

Isn't it that the porn actors are having real sex, the "real" actors are not, and the genital action from the porn actors' real sex is being overlaid on the footage of the real actors pretending to have sex? Thus simulating real sex between the real actors?

Oh so it IS simulated sex. I don't see the point of it. Because the actors are still acting what difference does it make if we have shots of genitals of unrelated people actually having sex? What artistic purpose does it serve?

The point is that Lars wants the publicity, funding, and expressive skill that comes from well known/serious actors, and he also wants the artistic directness/notoriety of raw sexual footage, but well known/serious actors often are uncomfortable with/aren't allowed by their agencies to actually perform real sex acts in a film (ie Chloe Sevigny was dropped from her agency after The Brown Bunny and her career suffered for a number of years). It's really not that far removed from Antichrist which used body doubles to show actual penetration, which still counts as unsimulated sex in a film even if it's not by the main actors.

That really happened? I knew that Gallo's career sorta nosedived after that, but I always thought Chloe was getting steady work before and after that.

Also, why has it taken me this long to finally watch The Thing?

Should I watch the director's cut or the theatrical version of Das Boot?

Director's cut all the way. Fantastic movie; my younger brother's favorite.

In a World...
3.5 Stars out of 4

Image

Lake Bell is entertaining, relatable, pretty, and very funny. She stars in this as the overshadowed daughter of one of those theatrical trailer announcer guys. After years of vocal coaching, she is offered a last-minute deal to be the voice of one of her own theatrical trailers, and she begins to work her way into the business that her father so piously claims to be the king of. The dynamic between all the main characters is great (the interplay between Bell and Dimitri Martin is surprisingly endearing) and there are laughs throughout, in addition to many human moments that are the backbone of the film.

Overall, In a World is just very funny, well-written and well-acted. It's getting a limited release, but if it's playing near you, definitely check it out.
