So Mou out? What's the deal at Chelsea? What are we hoping for here? I've generally been impressed with the way they've played in most matches. Not that they've been unlucky in any sense but they lack penetration despite how often they've controlled matches. They also let teams off so easily on all of their attacks. Interesting season to say the least. The table looks cool as shit discounting the usual suspects.

They won't get rid of Mourinho, if only because they have no one to replace him with. Even if they get a mediocre caretaker manager for the rest of the season, what Chelsea-caliber manager is available and willing? Simeone or Guariola? I doubt they'd want to manage at a club that will drop them after a short period of poor results, they'll want the longevity promised to Mourinho when he came back. Ancelloti? Chelsea fired him once already, so I'm not sure he'd want to come back. There's no one else I can think of.

As far as the deal is, I think it's the long term result of a late pre-season, resulting in general unfitness, and a lack of drive after winning the league last season. The early poor results that this caused has led to a huge confidence problem that only a string of wins can solve. I think Mourinho should take some of the blame, though. Playing Ivanovic and Fabregas repeatedly, despite both players causing far too many defensive problems and not creating enough to counteract their defensive frailty has been maddening. I also don't know what he was thinking today, trying to defend a 1-0 lead after they scored within a few minutes. I also wish he'd play the youngsters like RLC, Kennedy and Traore more often. If the results are shit regardless, it certainly can't hurt too much giving them some game time and they might actually give this team the necessary spark to start winning again.

perfect post. you can't fire you, i would never fire mou. he's the most successful manager the club has ever enjoyed and the only thing he loves more than himself is chelsea.

Not talking to the press doesn't mean he's not talking to his players.

I haven't seen it, but I can guess the kind of things he said and really this isn't anything knew. When he did it after the odd loss in the last few seasons he was praised for turning attention away from poor performances by his players and for creating a siege mentality at Chelsea. Now he's being roundly criticised for doing the same thing, albeit more frequently as results have been much poorer.

He had nothing to say at all. Nothing about the security of his job, nothing about the performance, nothing abut his team going forward. He just said no to every question and left.

Oh no, the horror.

Of course, nothing we haven't seen from him before but he should at least say something about his players. When you're managing a team that's been playing like shit and you're clearly under pressure from the board, you should at least have something to say about the performances or the players going forward. Making yourself look like an ass towards the media doesn't help anything for yourself or your team.

he didn't look like an ass at all. "the fans aren't stupid" "i have nothing to say" "nothing". the performance spoke for itself. his demeanor was professional, he was polite, he didn't lose his temper, he wasn't trying to be cute, he was actually polite overall. can't just enjoy a win, bones?

Two questions I was asked today at work

Who scored the Premierships first hat trick?

4 players have scored 5 goals in a Premiership match, name them?

For some reason, I have Mickey Quinn in mind for the first one. Someone random like that.

Second one is Shearer, Berba, Defoe, Aguero.

Well done on the second one, I struggled with that although I did get Shearer and Aguero. I actually got the other question straight away, dont know how I knew that one

I'm trying to think of strikers from 1992.

Brian Deane? Les Ferdinand? Teddy Sheringham? Dean Holdsworth? Eric Cantona? Chris Sutton?

I'll go Alan Shearer as I know he did once score a hattrick for Saints. Would have been around that time period I guess.

Edit: scratch that, he left Saints in the pre-season before the start of the Premier League.

Even though I'm not overly concerned about it, it's quite sad that the Barca 3 won't be the top 3 names on the podium for the Ballon D'or. CR7 has definitely had his worst year, and sure, he's scored goals, but if you look at the games he has and the distribution, it's been a pretty poor year. Now that he's gone on to break Raul's record, he should sail off to PSG to replace Zlatan next year. Hazard most likely to join R Madrid, unless his form continues to slip.

Also, looking over Real Madrid, it is frightening how good their squad is. They literally have all the best young talent in the world. Kovacic, Danilo, Varane, Isco, James, Kroos. Casemiro, Jese, Cheryshev aren't slouches either. I do think Madrid are in for a long spell of dominance again, especially because Barca seems to really be struggling with running the club, and La Masia are no longer what they used to be.

Well he can never really beat Messi, and the only thing going for him is that he's played in England and tested himself in other parts. Plus, I do think personal accolades do mean quite a bit to him. He might want to go to PSG, stay for 3 or 4 years and break Zlatan's goal scoring record there. He'll get paid equally well if not more, he'll win more titles than he's done with Madrid (no Barca to stop him there) and Paris just suits his extravagant larger than life personality tremendously as well.

I personally think joining the one big Paris club that always dominates would be too boring. I honestly don't know what Ronaldo should do, I think staying and leaving both have good reasons.

So how about that Arsenal/Bayern game though?

Interestingly enough I still think Arsenal has decent chances to quality for second round. I think at least their destiny will be in their own hands because I find it unlikely that Olympiacos will secure even a draw in Munich and Arsenal is likely to defeat Zagreb. Last match in Greece though, it's gotta be very difficult.
