Anyone else get tired of listening to cornerbacks talk? The whole "I'm the greatest there is" talk is more worthless than a question answered by BB or a quarterback.

I hate it when anybody talks like that.

Well yeah, but is there a group that's a bigger offender than corners? Receivers may come close, which I understand comes with the territory as it's the sexiest position in football, but damn do i just tune out corners as a general rule these days.

Yeah they probably do it the most. Sherman's still the most annoying guy in the league, to me. Honestly I don't mind that much when it's receivers, but that's just because I was a receiver and it's pretty impossible not to a) get pissed when you're working your ass off and not getting the ball, and b) think you're the most awesome shit in the world when you make a great play. Because really, great plays by receivers are the most awesome shit in the world.

I'll give a shout-out to running backs for being the most humble (with notable exceptions).

I prefer great plays by corners to great plays by receivers

I appreciate the consistency of corners more because I do not think WR is such a hard position to play. that is, being a sufficient or average receiver is not incredibly hard. There are obviously some athletic freaks of nature in the position. But heck, I could gain 40 lbs and be a poor man's steve Largent. Still, the physical spectacle of making a great catch is a highlight with few parallels in sports.

No you couldn't, that's incredibly stupid and naive.

how do you know I'm not an incredibly gifted athlete with the phenomenal eye hand coordination? When steve Largent was cut from the rams, there certainly wasn't anyone saying he could be a poor mans anything.

But yeah, duh it's naïve. But I also still think I could beat Allen Iverson 3 games out of 10 one on one. I have plenty of naïve thoughts when it comes to unfulfilled sports dreams.

It's stupid to think WR isn't that hard. You have to think more than anyone but a QB (and maybe o-line) and it requires a tremendous amount of athleticism to even be average. I'm sorry but I think your opinion is just plain wrong.

Still think great WR plays are slightly more impressive. Great corner plays usually means they took advantage of someone's mistake. There are of course many exceptions.

You think wr is harder than corner? My understanding is that the wr has to memorize the routes and have them ready for the play call. But the corner actually has to know the play as well, but also be able to recognize it and cover it while also not giving up other possibilities. It would seem that the mental task of being a corner is greater than that of being a wr.

Oh this is totally and ridiculously wrong. Wide receiver is in fact one of the easier thinking positions on the field. On offense only running back is easier and its actually pretty close depending on blocking schemes.

Nope, not in modern passing offenses. A route can change in half a second.

Edit: And running backs barely have to think.

Memorizing the routes isn't a case of calling a play and having a particular route to run. The call is made and then you have to run one of several routes, and this includes both pre-snap and post-snap reads. And if you want to be good you have to know what the other players are running too. And that's with the receiver only playing one receiver position, when usually they have to know all of them. And no, the corner generally has an assignment that's either just a zone or covering one receiver. It might be physically more difficult but generally their assignments are pretty easy on the mind.

DeSean Jackson seems to get by without thinking.
