Yeah idk what the hell's going on. I'd rather they start David Fales (who a lot of people rated as a third round qb). It'll be nice to see how much of the problem Cutler really was, but Clausen probably still sucks so I'm not sure he'll be the best comparison. Trestman might just be looking for a scapegoat after hearing he'll get fired. Don't really care that much about this season anymore, still just hoping everything gets scraped -- GM, coach, QB and all -- and rebuilt. |

Wonder if the Bills would consider swapping Cutler and Orton again. I wouldn't mind seeing that. |

Can athletes just "quit" their jobs and sign with a new team without getting the money they would if they were released? Like if the Bears couldn't trade or release him because of cap issues, could he just be like "fuck you guys," quit his job like any other job, and try to sign somewhere else? |

No. He can retire of course and that ends their obligation to pay him (though he actually still counts as a cap hit so it doesn't save you that much though I'm not sure how it works with his particular contract which I believe is more base and less bonus based) but the Bears still control his rights if he tries to come back (if he had years left on his contract and is not eligible for free agency). And if you retire the contract length doesn't run I believe. So for example the Cowboys had to trade something to Baltimore to acquire McClain's rights. |

Think you're right in theory but throwing him to the Lions (literally) in his first game seems cruel. But there was really no need to bench Cutler right now either (although maybe it was a kindness, maybe they really hate Claussen) |

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/the-p ... de-market/ Btw Eric here is your answer on release or retirement (which would be treated the same) And here is Barnwell's article solely on this: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/chica ... scapegoat/ |

Maybe Trestman is giving the finger to the organization and/or Cutler by starting one of the worst qbs in the league right now. |

^I haven't heard/seen that anywhere. A theory in Chicago for his benching was that they did already have a trade agreed to. Actually despite the things I've said I think it's pretty possible he's just had a bad season, as players sometimes do, and could still be pretty good. This isn't necessarily what "he'll always be" because he's played much better than this in a Bears uniform. |

Congrats to the Cowboys on the division. That's all I'll say on the subject. |
