It's safe to say we all have teams we support beyond where we live (and in some cases, not supporting our home) mostly to do with heritage.

Italy - myself, pink
Netherlands - Kosher, Forgie?
Berbatov - Georgi
France - Chem

Yup. I am actually Bulgarian though. Although I'm not actually Berbatov. I don't recall what Rob said about his link to France you know.

I'm rooting for Italy but because I studied there, not because of heritage.

Have any of the asian teams been any good? I feel connected with them but they don't strike me as good soccer countries. Props on the fans picking up after themselves tho.

I'm a filthy casual but I like both Germany and Japan and though I have about a quarter German heritage it doesn't have much to do with it just that I like watching those squads play.

Japan was pretty good last world cup and most of the Asian teams are fun to watch.

All my elder sisters supported Brazil, so I'm a Brazil supporter ever since I was a kid. I support Spain in the Euros, mostly cause m favorite club team is Barcelona and support Spain from around 2008. I've always liked the Netherlands cause Ruud Van Nistelroy was my favorite player as a kid. I shall probably get on the Belgian bandwagon, cause I like just about all the players. My brother in law is German, and they've always been awesome, so I guess throw them in as well.

Indeed. I've been following them since 2000. I also like Brazil, because they excited me in 2002; Japan, because they're just a straight up likeable team; and more recently Belgium, because of Hazard, Courtois and Lukaku.

How? I'm Brazilian. I grew up with it all my life. Not like I support them just because they're the best team historically.

I'm rooting for them because of both reasons.

Well I don't give a damn about Sunderland. I care about the USA team in the World Cup. And Jozy broke his international scoring drought 2 weeks ago and looked more dangerous against Ghana in 20 minutes than johansson did in 80. Does he really always miss those shots? Proof? And for the USA not Sunderland. And yes it is arbitrary to look at a scoring drought for a club and extrapolate that to international play and to assess the player in general based on it. He's not a world class forward or anything but he's been the usa's most consistently threatening forward and has goals to show for it. Hell, messi has had a year or two when he only scored 1 or 2 goals for Argentina. And I bet you Argentina fans don't give a damn how he does for barca if he's not producing for their own country.

yeah, apparently jozy doesn't either. he scores 1 goal, just 1, all season for sunderland, and parlays that into eight goalless matches against very weak opposition. as for proof, off the top of my head, go check the highlights of the turkey game, before that, the match against azerbaijan.yes, the drought was broken against nigeria, strictly in a literal sense, but his display was hardly anything that's going to change opinions. fact is, your boy fucking sucks, for club and country. and i've seen johansson put the ball in the net as of late. unfortunately, he had zero service last night as the long ball to altidore was really the last good ball played to a striker for the rest of the night.[/quote]
I'm talking about country here not club and the arguments you're making that are relevant to international performances are just arbitrary and apparently limited to just altidore as many other strikers better than him have goal droughts and fail to score against the azerbaijans of the world. Johansson for one has scored 2 international goals. Maybe he's better but you're not basing it on anything. Exhibit 1: they played for he same dutch team and Jozy was a more prolific scorer. Exhibit 2: Jozy is more prolific For his country. 3: let's talk about the Ghana game: Jozy did more in 20 minutes than johansson did in 80. But you think it's because everyone else wasnt doing enough to get him the ball. Perhaps Jozy got those balls played to him because he's bigger and faster and strong enough to retain possession against Ghanaians. And even when USA worked the ball up the field johansson hardly ever got himself involved. And I doubt it's because 10 other players just happened to neglect him all at once. Maybe johansson is better in the USA uniform. Hopefully he is. But I really don't know where you can draw that conclusion from given 3 different comparisons between the two in which Jozy does better. Heck, if your criteria is "putting the ball in the net as of late," then Jozy wins that too. Just seems like some baseless Jozy hate from you. I'm not defending him cuz he's my favorite or anything. Not at all. I just think you're making a baseless claim.
