LOL ariel. Bruce has just enough knowledge to be dangerous...but it's obvious he was never there. I don't mind educating him to the real deal and if anything he learns here sticks with him than it could be somewhat worthwhile, although I suspect that if a breathalyzer were required to log on to DDD, we'd not be hearing too much from him

Stu, I have never been drunk in my life (54 years).

I forgot more than you know about 50s and 60s music.

"just enough knowledge" my fucking ass.

Are you still claiming that Dee Dee Warwick's "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" came AFTER "Expressway To Your Heart?"

True that OBA was in effect an answer to The Jacksons chart success...much as Pet Sounds was Brian Wilsons answer to The Beatles...but all that said...Donnie did NOT sound black. I don't know what you mean about Donnie not being a significant part of OBA. He sang LEAD on that song???...The Osmonds were NOT a "blue eyed soul" group. One Bad Song don't spoil the whole bunch though...

Donnie sang the chorus. The lead was one of his brothers.

From your favorite source, wikipedia....

According to Donny Osmond, Michael Jackson later told him that the Jackson 5 almost recorded this song first, but chose to record "ABC" instead.

I don't know about you, but I never mistook hardly ANY of those groups for BEING black...only trying to fit into a black oriented genre. Rascals, Flaming Ember, Soul Survivors, Rare Earth...NONE of them ever fooled me into ever thinking that THEY were black. The exceptions that come to mind are Bobby Caldwell and the 80's group The Jets who actually sounded black.

What about in earlier days, Bobby Charles, Johnny Otis, Joe Barry, Frankie Ford, and Paul Himmelstein?

What about Al Jolson for God sakes...

Do you even know who Paul Himmelstein is?

White Jewish kid who sounded like Frankie Lymon.

First off, I happen to like Donnie Osmond and his brothers going all the way back to their Andy Williams days. They were essentially a barbershop harmony group turned pop as they got older. Motown would have never considered OBA for The Jacksons for the simple reason that Motown had several writers/producers in house and in line waiting for a crack at a Jackson project.

No one said they were.

I said that one record, "One Bad Aplle," was a huge soul hit because people thought that it was the Jackson 5.

People still think it's the Jackson 5 today:

As I stated...none that I (or hardly anyone else) knew of or cared about. See, my knowledge comes from personal experience, not a pile of reference books and internet searches. I only use wiki if I need to verify something that I already know from personal experience.

OBA had about as much chance of being recorded by the Jackson 5 at Motown as "With This Ring" would have had being recorded by the 4 Tops, despite the fact that former Motown bandleader Popcorn Wylie had the Tops in mind when he wrote that song which ended up being recorded by The Platters. Levi would have torn that song up too.

If nobody cared about the album it would not have been on the Billboard album chart for 13 weeks.

So you used it to verify that "Expressway" was the first chart hit for Gamble and Huff, and you and wiki were BOTH WRONG.

Perhaps I just mistook your obvious continual state of "ANGER" with drunkedness.

Perhaps you shouldn't post things like this....

Good call Bruce. X-Way to your heart was their first charted tune as a production team

No it wasn't.

Like I said, it was their first "huge" hit (top 5 on the pop charts), but they had other charted records before this, like "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" by Dee Dee Warwick, which was a year before "Expressway."

StuBass wrote:
but the "blue eyed soul" Soul Survivors were essentially one hit wonders

Their followup, "Explosion In Your Soul" was a top 40 pop chart hit, (#33) which was bigger than all but two or three of the Intruders records.

Hi Bruce...

Looks like you're in one of your pissy, argumentitive moods today :clashwho: LOL, so OK...I'll play along.

And since you conveniently left out the LOL from my remark Bruce, I must seriously consider the possibility that your anger is only surpassed by your complete lack of a sense of humor.

I guess you're right ariel...Never argue with an idiot cause you'll lose every time. They're much more experienced at it.
