I found Nana Komatsu painful at first too, but I have to say after rewatching NANA I think it's important that she's not perfect. Many of the characters aren't but its important for their process and how they change... I wish they changed her character more, because in ways I can totally see how I was like her in some ways when I was very young and then how I changed... The latter of the series gets too low/depressing imo and I haven't actually finished the manga, but in terms of the love the two Nanas share... super super similar to my situation now (except it is romantic) |

FINALLY almost done with Spice and Wolf... only 4 episodes left, and it was tedious getting through them (there's only 25 episodes, but this show really isn't very good) Finished Azumanga Daioh which I started halfway through S&W, and I liked it quite a lot. Reminded me of Nichijou in the fact that it's not really about anything, but the characters were hilarious and made even simple situations very entertaining. I really loved Chiyo, the adorable 10 year old prodigy who skipped 5 grades. Probably the cutest anime character I've seen thus far. |

I got bored after finishing Elfen Lied (which was awesome), and thought about picking up Darker Than Black, since it's on my Netflix cue. Watched 2 episodes and meh; anyone recommend or not recommend it? |

I could be wrong, but I think Azumanga Daioh was the genesis of the the random, slice of life highschool girl subgenre. Shows like Nichijou, Minami-ke, Lucky Star etc all show a strong Azumanga Daioh influence in terms of their structure, setting and humour. |

Agreed about Azumanga Daioh. I prefer it to Nichijou personally (can't think of other similar shows that I've seen. Never saw Lucky Star despite it's popularity). Nichijou's humor can get a bit ridiculous at times, and a few things go over my head. Both are good shows though, but AD has carved out a spot in my top 10 for the time being. |

I just finished watching the third and final season of Bakuman. It truly is an excellent show, with just the right levels of sentimentality and youthful joie de vivre. I haven't been this moved by an anime for quite some time. |

I read the first few chapters of that in Shonen Jump, always wondered how it turned out. Sucks that the localizations keep getting pulled. |

Watched Ergo Proxy. Was a pretty good and deeply philosophical anime, but had 2 horribly awful filler episodes that ruined the flow of the show a bit. Now watched Higurashi, and goddamn is it unnerving, morbid and disturbing. |

Finished rewatching Baccano. Enjoyed it a lot more than the first time (when I was watching it on a tiny standard def 4:3 aspect ratio old school TV) because its visuals really got to shine. It's a bit overly violent to the point of being pornographic at times but there are some really great characters and the story telling technique helps to keep strong interest in the stories and explore different characters perspective on events. It has a good score (although with a TAD bit more subtlety it could have actually been truly brilliant because the crazyness on screen almost cried out for something to anchor it). Anyway an enjoyable watch that does a great job not overstaying its welcome. |

I did. Kinda meh all the way through honestly, but it wasn't bad or anything; just not really appealing to me. I wouldn't mind watching the sequel at some point. Trying xxxHolic for the same reason as the above; it's pretty funny, but doesn't really spark anything from me. |
