I don't think I could do a list of 50 hip-hop albums. The top of the list would be easy and fun: the top four would be the first three Run-DMC albums and PM Dawn's The Bliss Album; the next two spots would go to 3 Feet High And Rising and Radio, unless I'm forgetting something.

But I haven't listened to many full hip-hop albums in more recent times, and I don't think there are enough old school ones I really remember to justify a top 50. (Singles, of course, would be another story.)

Still, it would be a more cohesive list, so it would be interesting to see.

I'll take a lot of recs. Would def be interested in expanding that range.

Idk bros, I just feel like we should get the decade lists done before we start focusing on genres

I say mix it up. We should be able to get a rap list done fairly quickly, no?

as for what qualifies, i think its a "you know it when you hear it" thing. the DJs like DJ Shadow, J Dilla, Peanut Butter Wolf, etc. i think they should qualify. same for grime.

rap-rock and trip hop i would say no. imo.

instrumental hip hop is less clear cut. por ejemplo, flying lotus?

Definitely intending to put some Rick James on my 80s singles list.

yeah flying lotus is one of those sui generis artists but I think I'm inclined to allow his work on a hip hop list. I actually get kinda uneasy when I see him or other instrumental hip hop artists on electronic lists for some reason

For me it's the opposite. But if enough people include Flying Lotus, DJ Shadow, J Dilla, etc, I will too.

I feel like I wouldn't group Dilla with those guys. He's firmly set in the hip hop aesthetic, whereas the other two have a broader style imo.

Don't really why Cosmogramma would be considered hip hop tbh.

i'm all for a rap list. it will get me into more 80s hiphop in preparation for the 80s list as well.
